She aimed a swift kick at his shin. "Carson, you're crossing the line!"

"Am I?" Carson didn't even try to dodge, likely guessing there would be no real force behind her kick. "Let's give it a try. If I leave you satisfied, that's just one more reason for you to marry me."

Her heart was racing out of control. "Stop talking nonsense," she whispered frantically. "Claire is right outside."

"She already left."

"How do you know?"

Marina glanced up. Catching sight of his flushed, thoroughly kissed lips, her mind short-circuited. A jolt of electricity shot straight down her spine.

Catching her distracted stare, Carson leaned in to kiss her again, his tone dripping with suggestion. "Let's make this official. You can kiss me whenever you want. I'm all yours."

Her thoughts dissolved into a hazy fog. A soft moan escaped her lips, almost sounding like a murmur of agreement.

This man was entirely too seductive. She was genuinely losing the battle. Before the enemy could even breach the gates, she was ready to wave the white flag.

It was incredibly frustrating!

As another breathless kiss came to an end, Marina rested her forehead against his shoulder. "We really need to go out there," she managed to say, her voice husky.

Carson didn't push her this time. He took a moment to steady his breathing, then threaded his fingers through hers and led her out the door.

As they descended the staircase, a belated realization hit Marina. Did they even need to make it official?

Weren't they already kissing whenever they wanted? It wasn't as if he was ever going to say no.

Downstairs, Mrs. Foster immediately spotted their joined hands. A gentle, knowing smile touched her lips. "Did we interrupt something?"

Marina immediately snatched her hand back. "No, not at all! I just finished my practice and we were coming down for lunch anyway."

Mrs. Foster cast a lingering look at her son. "I assume you're quite starved as well?" she asked, her tone laden with double meaning.
