Estelle headed back to the front lobby and spotted Norah taking orders from some regulars, who were cracking jokes with her.
After dinner, Estelle told Gwen and Mr. Malcom to bounce while she stayed to lend a hand.
At one point, Estelle asked Norah, "How long are you planning to stick around here?"
Norah chuckled, "No plans to leave, mate!"
"Do your folks know you're waitressing here?"
Norah shook her head, "Nope, they're clueless."
"And if they find out?"
Norah shrugged nonchalantly, "They wouldn't bat an eye."
Estelle responded, "That's because they don't know you're working here."
Norah dropped her smile, "What are you getting at, Estelle?"
"I'm saying you shouldn't be here. You should go home, follow your parents' advice, or do something you love."
Norah quickly replied, "Waitressing here is something I love!"
She paused, softening her tone, "To be honest, my folks have their own career plans for me, but I don't want to live by their rules. It's my life, I should call the shots."
"Waitressing is the life you want?"
Norah pouted, looking down, silent.
"Stop coming here. Even if you don't want to follow your parents' plan, you should do what you're meant to."
Pushing back the curtain, Norah searched the kitchen, but the boss was nowhere to be found. She asked Zachary, “Where’s the boss?”
“The boss?” Zachary was busy with the spices, he looked at her blankly, then laughed, “The boss got oil all over his hands, probably went to wash up.”
Norah headed to the back and ran into Damian coming out of the bathroom. “Norah, what’s up?”
“Where’s the boss?”
“He needed the bathroom, the one downstairs was occupied, so he went upstairs.”
Norah quickly headed upstairs, where they all lived. The bathroom was on the left as soon as you entered.
Now, the bathroom door was slightly ajar, and the sound of running water could be heard. Assuming Xavier was washing his hands, Norah didn’t think much of it and walked right in.
