Chapter 140
Emily’s attempt to escape the consequences of her actions was futile. Yet, the Miller brothers still hesitated to believe she’d plagiarized; their gaze remained fixated on her.
“I didn’t… I didn’t mean to…” her voice trembled, tears streaming down her face like shattered moonstones. She clutched at her robe, her wolf whimpering in fear.“I thought they were Isabella’s designs…” Her voice was weak, desperate for sympathy.
My gaze hardened, piercing Emily’s.
My voice, though calm, held an edge of steel.“So you admit you deliberately stole my designs?”
My wolf’s icy fury radiated out, freezing the very air around her.
Emily’s eyes widened, her pupils shrinking.
She realized her slip–up and paled. Her gaze darted between Alexander and Jared, begging for their

support.
Jared’s claws clenched and unclenched; hesitation flickered in his eyes. Alexander shifted, as if preparing to defend Emily.
Then, Caleb raised his arm, a subtle yet powerful gesture that stopped them both in their tracks. His wolf’s silent command echoed the
truth he was suddenly aware of.
His eyes deepened with a complex mix of emotions as he recalled my years of silent sacrifice, overshadowed by Emily’s perceived
brilliance.
Putting together the clues Emily had inadvertently revealed, a terrifying thought struck him. Emily had been stealing my work all along.
Had Emily’s accusations–that I’d sabotaged her designs out of jealousy–been lies, engineered to force my departure?
And he’d punished me for it!
Caleb felt a searing pain in his chest, his face draining of color.
His wolf whimpered in agony, the weight of his past actions crushing him.
He clutched his chest, staggering backward. But then, with a renewed determination, he lurched forward, towards me. He’d been wrong; he should not have punished me. I was innocent they were the ones at fault!
He was too distraught to speak, his vision blurring.
He stumbled a few steps before collapsing.
—
Instinctively, I reached out to steady him, but the height difference prevented me from catching him.
“Caleb!” Jared and Alexander snapped out of their stupor, rushing to support him.
Caleb’s face was pale; his breathing was shallow; he was barely conscious. His wolf cried out in pain, its energy waning.
“Summon the healers!” I said calmly, activating my communicator to alert the pack medics, reporting the location with steady precision.
My wolf worked alongside my human mind, calm amidst the chaos.
Caleb was rushed to the healing den. Emily used his collapse as a means to escape the judging hall.
In the corridor outside the healing den, Emily sat, her face hidden, her shoulders trembling. The healers offered sympathetic glances.

Jared sat on a bench, restlessly tapping his paws. Alexander leaned against the wall, his expression somber.
Emily believed she’d escaped; she resented Caleb for protecting her and yet somehow siding with me instead. His collapse was convenient; if he were to die, she could blame me, claiming I’d caused it.
Suddenly, her communicator vibrated; it was a message from Nina’s weaving studio.
“Ms. Carter, concerning the designs you used in the Silvermoon Pack’s weaving competition, our investigation confirms they are charity pieces by Master Weaver Nina.
This constitutes a severe breach of our pack’s intellectual property rights…”
A chill ran through Emily. Her wolf howled silently, its fear palpable.
