Chapter261.
Emily seemed to be holding back, finally bursting into tears, her voice trembling.
Her wolf expertly feigned distress. “Mason…”
Hearing that, Mason’s heart ached.“Emily, don’t cry, don’t cry! What happened? Who bullied you?” His wolf was instantly protective.
Emily sobbed deliberately.
Her wolf spun a carefully crafted tale.“Caleb is injured. Jared… he… he misunderstood that I hurt Caleb… I know, in his heart, Isabella is the most important. But it wasn’t me…” She deliberately spoke vaguely, twisting the facts to mislead Mason.
Her wolf enjoyed the manipulation.
“Isabella is still the same as before, stirring trouble and targeting you! Jared used to be impulsive, but he was still clever. Now he’s so stupid that he’s siding with Isabella?”
Mason’s wolf readily accepted her version of events.
Hearing Mason’s words, Emily felt relieved. Her wolf exhaled, its deception successful.
“Actually, these things aren’t important. Jared saw Isabella today, and then he guarded against me like a thief, hiring a pack guard to stop me from visiting Caleb… Mason, I’m so sad…”
Her wolf carefully played the victim.
“That Jared!” Mason’s handsome face was filled with anger. His wolf mirrored his outrage. “Emily, don’t be afraid. I’ll be in Washington Territory tomorrow. I’ll teach him a lesson!”
Emily’s lips curled into a wide smile, deliberately sobbing loudly, then softly said: “Thank you, Mason. I know you are the best to me.” Her wolf reveled in his devotion.
Mason’s tone softened.“You’re my she–wolf. If I don’t treat you well, who will I treat well? His wolf pledged its loyalty.
“Yes!” Emily pinched her nose, responding with a heavy nasal sound.
Her wolf continued its act.
“Alright, don’t cry anymore, I’ll be there tomorrow.”
Emily wiped her nonexistent tears.
“Yes, I’ll wait for you.”
Mason hung up and immediately used his authority to check Silvermoon Pack’s surveillance footage, seeing Jared looking for me. His wolf interpreted the scene to support Emily’s narrative.
He was even more certain that I was stirring up trouble and causing Jared to misunderstand Emily! Then, he called Silvermoon Pack’s top Alphas one by one.
Wasn’t I trying to reorganize Silvermoon Pack? He wanted to see how a useless heiress who only knew how to spend money would handle it!
In the afternoon, I walked into the conference room. Sparingly seated around the large conference table were five people. Besides myself and Manager Welch, there were twelve high–ranking Alphas at Silvermoon Pack. But only four showed up.
My wolf sensed the shift in power.
Seeing me enter, Manager Welch immediately stood up, his eyes flickering with anxiety.
I nodded to him, then scanned the remaining four people present.
Two were directors from the hunting party–they know how important I was and trusted me the most. The director from the pack council had been shocked by my actions that morning and rushed over. He had elderly parents and young pups; he couldn’t lose his position. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have allowed Nana, leveraging her position as the Luna’s secretary and her close relationship with Emily, to act so arrogantly in front of him. The last person was the deputy director of the pack guard.
The others were absent.
My wolf felt the weight of their absence. And right now, the silent, overwhelming power move hit like a thunderclap.
A cold smile touched my lips. My wolf snarled in quiet triumph. Did they think I was still the easily bullied young she–wolf of the Miller pack?
