Chapter 621.
Inside a private pack club’s VIP den in the Silvermoon Territory capital.
I sat casually in the main seat, my fingertips lightly tapping the mahogany table. My wolf sat poised in the back of my mind, her ears flicking as she tracked the erratic pulse of the man across from us.
Faye, my loyal Beta, stood at my side, sliding a drafted blood–contract across the table to the pot–bellied Alpha seated opposite us.
“Alpha Lu,” Faye said, her voice smooth as polished stone, “here’s the contract for your review. As for the territorial trade–value, Fire Apothecary is making a truly generous offer–fifteen percent above the current market rate.”
The property–holding Alpha, Mr. Lu, didn’t even bother to glance up. He leaned back in his chair, his hands idly rotating two gleaming, polished silver spheres. His arrogance was practically a tangible thing in the air, clashing with the underlying scent of something chemically cold.
“Not selling,” he drawled, his voice flat.
He delivered two curt words, sharp and final.
Faye’s expression flickered.“Alpha Lu,” she said, her voice tight with disbelief, “we had a verbal pact. Are you trying to back out of a wolf’s word?”
Mr. Lu finally lifted his gaze, a smirk tugging at his lips as he offered an utterly contemptuous smile.
“A verbal pact?” he scoffed.“What kind of breach is that even supposed to be in the modern pack–lands?“”
“You!”
Faye’s chest heaved with suppressed anger, but she managed to maintain her professional Beta composure.“Alpha Lu,” she asked, her voice strained,“can I at least know the reason? Is the silver–offering not to your satisfaction, or did another pack simply offer more territory?”
“No reason,” Mr. Lu said, waving a dismissive hand, clearly annoyed.“I simply don’t want to sell to Fire Apothecary. Understand? You’re all still too green. The pack world is a battlefield, and I’m just giving you a lesson today!”
With that, he stood up abruptly, completely ignoring my presence as a fellow high–ranking wolf, and walked out.
Bang!
The door was slammed shut, the heavy wood vibrating with his aggression.
Faye’s face was grim. This wasn’t the first time. Over the past few days, we’d met with several Alpha land–owners, all of whom seemed perfectly on board. But then, right before we were supposed to sign the blood–contracts, every single one of them suddenly changed their minds.
Each one of them was just like Mr. Lu today, unbelievably stubborn, willing to pay hefty breach–of–contract penalties to the Pack Council rather than budge.
These people must have been controlled by Julia’s spirit–sentinels!”
Faye didn’t have proof, but I could see the fierce conviction burning in her eyes. She looked at me. Her gaze screamed her expectation: I held the key to the micro–rune loophole; I could reverse the control and deal them a crushing blow
And
yet,
I made no move. My wolf let out a soft, calculating chuff. We were playing the long game. Faye looked a little anxious. “Isabella, aren’t we going to act? Our expansion is being choked.”
A cold, sharp curve played on my lips.“Hmm. Raise the silver–price and keep acquiring dens and territory.”
“Okay, I’ll get right to it–wait, what?!”
Faye looked utterly bewildered, as if she could barely believe her own ears.“What did you just say?”
I said unhurriedly, “Exposing her directly… well, even if we ignore how credible her evidence is, she could easily claim I was the one who controlled Old Alpha Miller first, and she was just following my lead. I’d inevitably get dragged through the mud of the Ancient Covenant.“
Faye pondered my words, and I saw the understanding flash in her eyes. It was true. In the eyes of the Pack Council, the first to use the forbidden art is the primary sinner.
“Then…”

“So, keep acquiring properties, and make sure every wolf hears about it. I want the whole territory, all of the Silvermoon lands, to know I’m sparing no expense to build this new healing branch. The louder the howl, the better.”
Faye still didn’t seem to grasp my full intention, but she nodded instantly. “Yes, I’ll get right on it!”

The moment the news dropped, it sent shockwaves through the entire pack–business scene. Fire Apothecary, with its deep reserves of silver and trade–value, kept upping the ante, making highly public acquisitions of ancestral buildings and hunting lands.
A den initially valued at a hundred million silver–marks? Fire Apothecary offered two hundred million!
If two hundred million wasn’t enough, we’d jump to a billion. Eventually, we were even throwing out offers: ten billion silver–marks was on the table if the location was right.
Crazy! Utterly insane! They must have thought I’d completely lost my mind!
The entire Silvermoon population was glued to this absurd spectacle on the Howlnet, watching it unfold. On one side, Fire Apothecary was practically waving stacks of silver–certificates, throwing wealth around like it was going out of style. On the other, Alpha property–holders who seemed utterly possessed, inexplicably turning their backs on ridiculous sums.
And the she–wolf behind it all, Julia, I knew she was sitting on the sofa in the Green family estate, watching the Howlnet feeds unfold, probably shaking, with malicious laughter.
“Hahahaha… Isabella, Isabella. So you finally found yourself with nowhere to turn, huh? You really think silver can buy you everything? Well, now I’m going to make sure you can pile up mountains of marks and still not buy an inch of land in this territory!”
She swayed the red vintage wine in her glass, a sickly flush blooming on her face, mingling with an almost disturbing excitement.
A bitter twist churned in my gut as I imagined her. For them, having me so completely under their thumb, playing me like some unwitting Omega pawn… it must have been pure ecstasy. I knew exactly how she wanted me to feel: furious, desperate, and completely helpless.
This was going to be a show, alright.
But as one Alpha land–owner after another turned down increasingly exorbitant offers, I noticed a subtle shift in the tide of public opinion on the
Howlnet.
Then, a Howlnet influencer, clearly chasing clout, raised a question that immediately caught fire among the clans-
Then I saw a post on the Moon–Wall that really hit home. It started with a bold question: “Doesn’t anyone else find this strange? One or two Alphas refusing Fire for their own reasons, sure, I can understand that. But now, it’s all the top pack–leaders in the territory, acting like they’ve coordinated their heartbeats, willing to pay sky–high Pack Council penalties just to walk away from a deal that’s a guaranteed win, a complete goldmine. Does that even make sense from a predator’s perspective?”
That post was a pebble dropped into a calm lake. And instantly, it sent ripples through the entire discussion, stirring up an uproar.
Comments flooded in.“Exactly! This is completely insane! What wolf turns down easy meat? That’s billions of silver–marks, not a hundred scraps!”
Another wolf chimed in, “A pack–mate of mine works at one of those companies. He said their Alpha was popping champagne the day before, celebrating the deal, but the next day he was a completely different wolf. He stormed into the den and just vetoed the project. He’d snap at anyone who tried to reason with his logic.”
