Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 161

“Get out of my way!” Veronica snapped at the security guards by the entrance.

The guards looked at her as if she were an idiot.

“Please present your credentials.”

“Credentials?” Veronica scoffed. “Do you know who I am? I’m Veronica, the heiress to the Hale Group!”

“My father has donated money to your institute. Let me in!”

The security guards didn’t budge.

“No one is permitted inside without a pass.”

Veronica was furious. She was used to getting her way abroad and had never been treated like this.

“I’m here to see someone!”

“There’s someone inside named Grace. She’s my… maid!”

“She stole something from me! If you dare to stop me, you’ll be guilty of harboring a criminal!”

The security guards remained unmoved.

“Please contact the police, or have the person you’re here to see come out and get you.”

“You!” Veronica was so angry she wanted to hit someone.

Just then, a black Audi slowly pulled up. The license plate was unremarkable, and the car was a bit old. But in a place like this, the more understated the car, the more important the person inside.

The window rolled down, revealing an elderly face.

Veronica’s eyes lit up. Dr. Walsh! The world-renowned biologist and a good friend of her father’s!

The security guards saluted. “Yes, Dr. Walsh.”

Veronica smugly lifted her chin at the guards. See that? This is what connections get you! This is class!

That bitch Grace was only fit to serve tea and run errands inside. But she was an honored guest, invited in by a top professor!

She got into Dr. Walsh’s car, her mind already racing with how she would humiliate Grace when she saw her. She would have to throw that check in her face in front of all the experts. She’d call it a service fee and tell her to take the money and buy some dignity!

The thought of it was thrilling.

The conference hall was massive, with tiered seating that could hold five hundred people. At the moment, besides the front rows reserved for experts, the back was packed with reporters, and many young researchers were standing along the sides.

Veronica followed Dr. Walsh inside. She had expected some kind of chaotic press conference or a third-rate lecture with only a handful of people. But the scene before her was stunning.

Everyone was dressed in formal attire, their expressions focused. On the large screen, incredibly complex molecular structures and incomprehensible data models scrolled by.
