Grace buried her face in her pillow, tears silently soaking the fabric.
"Whatever you say."
The two set off early the next morning.
Though they had decided to keep a low profile, Damien's refined demeanor was impossible to hide.
Even wearing a mask and a simple black windbreaker, he stood out from the crowd like a sore thumb.
Grace wore a cream-colored long dress with a matching black jacket, the same style as Damien's.
It made her look even more petite.
Because of the pain in her leg, she walked slowly.
Damien patiently kept pace with her, deliberately slowing his steps to remain half a step behind, protectively shielding her.
"Are you tired? Should I go get a wheelchair?"
Damien frowned, noticing the fine beads of sweat on her forehead.
"No, it's fine."
Grace shook her head, offering a small smile.
"I want to walk by myself."
Just as they exited the arrivals hall, a burst of chaotic screaming erupted.
"Ahhh! It's Celia!"
"Celia, look over here! I love you!"
A horde of fans holding signs surged forward like a tidal wave.
They completely blocked the wide walkway.
Grace instinctively shrank into Damien's arms.
Crowded places like this were her biggest fear now.
With lightning speed, Damien wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her securely against his chest.
He used his own back to shield her from the jostling crowd.
His expression turned to ice.
Just then, a shrill female voice cut through the noise.
"Well, well, if it isn't my dear cousin?"
The crowd parted automatically.
A woman in a sequined miniskirt and heavy makeup walked towards them.
"Damien, why are you so mean?"
Celia whined, reaching out as if to take Damien's arm.
"I'm just concerned about you. After all, this person with you..."
She looked Grace up and down, then let out a sneer.
"Isn't this Mr. Ward's old plaything? The one he got tired of and kicked out?"
"What's this? You've latched onto my cousin now?"
"Grace, you're quite the operator."
"Even with that limp, you just can't keep still, can you?"
A wave of murmurs went through the crowd.
Camera flashes went off like a storm.
While Grace and Ethan's divorce was no secret in business circles, the general public only knew Damien by name. They had no idea who Grace was.
Grace instinctively tried to hide her leg.
That feeling of inadequacy was bone-deep.
Seeing Grace's reaction, Celia grew even more smug.
