"He was very discreet. All the financial transactions only trace back to Serena Shum."
Grace heard this and was baffled. "Is Serena really that stupid? Doesn't that make it incredibly difficult to expose Julian Leung?"
Damien smiled, then stood up and took a file from his briefcase, handing it to her.
"Take a look at this."
Grace took the file, and a smile spread across her face as she read it.
It was a formal whistleblower complaint filed by the Clarke Group with the government's anti-corruption commission.
The complaint detailed not only the recent collapse but also several instances from years ago involving collusion between a few of the Clarke Group's own executives and certain individuals in regulatory agencies.
And those "certain individuals" were the very political cover that had allowed Julian Leung to dominate the biotech field for so many years.
"Are you... using this to take him down?" Grace looked at him, her eyes wide with shock.
"The Clarke Group has its own parasites. If I clean them out myself, it's just housekeeping. But since someone decided to use our internal corruption to attack us, then they can't blame me for taking no prisoners."
Damien leaned back against the sofa, spreading his arms wide with a wicked grin. "Julian Leung thinks he's safe hiding in the shadows? Once the commission gets involved, this will drag in more and more people. No one will escape, not even with the faintest connection. Our government won't let him off the hook."
"That's you, alright," Grace said, closing the file as the tension finally left her body. "Once this gets out, there's bound to be opposition from within the Clarke Group."
"Opposition?" Damien snorted. "Whoever opposes it must have a guilty conscience. This is the perfect opportunity for me to give the Clarke Group a thorough cleaning."
That was just how he was.
He met every attack with overwhelming force.
Anyone who came at him with underhanded tactics got the same in return, no exceptions, man or woman.
***
And at that very moment, the woman who had come at him, Serena Shum, was in a full-blown panic.
