Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 517

"Grace, my condolences. Your grandmother would want you to be happy," Ivy said, her eyes red.

"I know."

Grace managed a small smile. "You should go home. I'd like to be alone for a little while."

"But…"

"It's okay, Damien is here."

Ivy glanced at Damien, nodded, and walked away, looking back every few steps.

Soon, only the two of them remained in the cemetery.

The rain fell harder.

It felt as if nothing else existed in the world but this small tombstone.

Grace crouched down, her hand tracing the cold photograph on the headstone.

"Grandma," she murmured softly, "no one can upset you anymore."

Large raindrops splattered on the ground, soaking the toes of Grace's shoes.

Suddenly, a lump formed in her throat.

Her eyes began to sting.

Damien wrapped an arm around Grace's frail shoulders, pulling her into his embrace. The black umbrella was angled almost entirely over her.

"Let's go."

He was afraid that if she stayed any longer, the pain would only deepen.

Just as they descended the cemetery steps, a tall, somewhat disheveled figure abruptly entered Grace's line of sight.

Ethan.

He was wearing a black suit but wasn't holding an umbrella.

His hair was soaked through, giving him a look of wretched brokenness.

The moment he saw Grace, Ethan froze.

"Grace..."

Ethan spoke her name.

Grace's steps didn't falter.

Her gaze calmly passed over him, focusing on the path ahead.

Damien shifted slightly, blocking Ethan's view of Grace.

"Move."

"Grace, I know you hate me."

Ethan took a deep breath, avoiding Damien's gaze, and said with feigned affection, "But we were married for five years. Your grandmother meant a lot to me, and I just wanted to..."

"Shut up."

Damien cut him off.

"Ethan, who are you to speak of 'elders'?"

"You..." Ethan was instantly speechless.

Grace just felt a wave of disgust.

"Let's go," she said, tugging on Damien's sleeve. "The atmosphere here is foul."

Damien withdrew his gaze. "Alright, let's go home."

He tightened his arm around Grace and turned toward the black Maybach parked by the road.

Ethan stood rooted to the spot, watching them leave.

There was a time when she was the woman who would always be there if he just looked back, the woman who would leave a light on for him no matter how much he had wronged her.

Now, she wouldn't even spare him a single glance.
