At that thought, all the color drained from Elliot's face.
He whipped his head toward Grace and roared, "Grace! Call the cops, get an ambulance! Hurry! I'm going to bust the door down!"
With that, he took two steps back and crouched into a charging stance.
Grace stared at him blankly.
Holding her baby, she had been genuinely worried a second ago. But seeing Elliot preparing to demolish the building suddenly evaporated all her anxiety.
"Just hold on a second."
Grace bent down to pick up the discarded bouquet and set it on a nearby console table. "You're not going to break that door down. If you shatter your leg, Ivy's just going to have to take care of you."
"But she's gone quiet!"
Elliot's eyes were bloodshot with panic. "What if she's dying! If she... if she..."
Click.
Just as Elliot was about to launch himself forward, the door swung open.
Ivy stood in the doorway, her hair an absolute rat's nest. She was wearing only one slipper, clutching her arm, and wincing in obvious pain.
"What is all the yelling for?"
She hissed through her teeth, her expression freezing when she realized Elliot was standing right next to Grace.
Elliot was still frozen in his charging stance, one foot awkwardly hovering in the air.
"You're... you're okay?"
His eyes were rimmed red, making him look surprisingly pathetic.
Ivy jumped at the sheer intensity radiating off him.
"What... what could possibly be wrong with me?"
She looked at him like he was crazy. "I just got up too fast, had a dizzy spell from low blood sugar, and slammed my arm into the nightstand... Ugh, it hurts like crazy. It's definitely going to bruise."
That was it?
That was it?!
Elliot took a deep breath. All that surging adrenaline from his desperate need to play the hero suddenly felt ridiculously absurd.
Still, he hurried over to her.
"Where did you hit it? Let me see!"
