"No wonder..."
Grace muttered softly. "No wonder Julian is so arrogant within the Leung family, even to the point where Alistair's legitimate wife walks on eggshells around him. And no wonder their overseas business has exploded with success. They've had this colossal backer the entire time."
"What's even more fascinating," Damien tapped his long fingers against the paper, "is that Julian likely has no idea. He genuinely believes he's Alistair's blood heir, while blindly following the old man's strict mandate: whatever Mr. K asks, he must obey without question."
"So now..." Grace looked up, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. "If we just leak this to the press..."
"No."
Damien shook his head. "If this gets out, Mr. K will likely extract Julian immediately to protect him. Then, he would rain absolute hell down upon us in retaliation."
He pinched the bridge of his nose and continued.
"As greedy as Alistair Leung is, he would never willingly hand his entire family legacy over to an outsider. This document right here is the ultimate bargaining chip against him."
"With this, the Leung family will have no choice but to drop their attack on Graceline Technologies' European patents. We might even be able to force them to turn around and bite Mr. K."
"Damien."
Grace called his name softly.
"Hmm?"
"You're wicked," she smiled, though tears glistened in her eyes.
"A little wickedness goes a long way."
Damien leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. "What's wrong? Feeling sorry for them?"
"I feel sorry for myself."
Grace rested her head against his chest, her voice slightly muffled. "I used to be so helpless. I never knew how to fight back, and they always took advantage of me. If only I had met the man you are now a little sooner..."
If she had met him earlier, would she have been spared so much suffering?
Would she have avoided the trauma? The forced bone marrow extractions, the shattered legs, the sheer helplessness of watching her grandmother breathe her last right in front of her eyes?
Damien held her tighter, whispering into her ear.
