They were stunningly attractive and clearly oozed wealth.
They didn't look like her usual walk-in clients at all.
"Where is Ethan?"
Grace demanded, cutting straight to the chase before the receptionist could speak. "Tell him to get out here."
Ms. Lowry was startled by her icy tone. "Mr... Mr. Ward? He's not here."
"Not here?" Elliot stepped forward, flashing his badge. "I need him for questioning. Where is he?"
Seeing the police badge, the young woman immediately panicked.
"I... I don't know," she stammered. "Mr. Ward hasn't been in the office for two days. He said he was going to check on a project at one of the job sites."
"Two days?"
The dread in Grace's chest grew heavier.
"Call him," she ordered sharply. "Right now!"
"Okay, okay, I'm calling."
Ms. Lowry frantically grabbed the desk phone and dialed Ethan's number.
The line rang and rang, but there was no answer.
After it automatically disconnected, she tried two more times. Still nothing.
"He's not answering." She put the receiver down, looking bewildered. "That's weird. Mr. Ward likes to act tough, but he cares a lot about his business. He never ignores calls from the office."
The fact that Ethan had vanished right at this exact moment made him incredibly suspicious.
"Which site did he go to?" Ivy pressed.
"The... the apartment complex by the old steel mill on the south side," she recalled. "At least, I think so. That's what the foreman said."
"Call the foreman!" Elliot barked.
Ms. Lowry looked like she was about to cry.
The guy looked like an upstanding cop, but he barked orders like a mobster.
She hastily flipped through the directory on her desk and dialed the foreman.
