Without another word, she dragged Lottie toward the car.
"Hurry! Get us to Fjällgatan Street!"
A drive from the city center to Fjällgatan Street usually took half an hour.
Grace gripped her seatbelt the entire way, vibrating with a mix of terror and anticipation.
"It's going to be okay."
Lottie freed one hand from the wheel to give Grace's a reassuring squeeze. "Gianna is definitely still there."
The car wound its way upward. The scenery opened up but also grew increasingly desolate.
The area preserved many 18th-century wooden houses, painted in shades of red and yellow, scattered haphazardly along the cliff edge.
It offered a stunning, panoramic view of the Stockholm harbor, but right now, all Grace saw was an eerie, foreboding wasteland.
"Which house did the driver say it was?" Lottie slowed the car, her gaze sweeping over the buildings along the road.
"She said it was at the very end... behind that row of red houses. A very unusual building," Grace recited from memory. "She said it looked a bit like... it had an Eastern architectural style."
Eastern style?
In a Nordic country like Svealand, a house with Eastern architecture would undoubtedly stick out.
"Right there!"
Grace suddenly pointed ahead and yelled.
Sure enough, at the dead end of the road, hidden behind the brightly colored Nordic cabins, stood a solitary two-story house.
The building was quite old, with grayish-white walls and slightly curved eaves. While not purely traditional, it still looked entirely out of place among the European pitched roofs.
Towering pine trees surrounded the property, almost completely obscuring the yard from view.
"This is it."
Lottie parked the car about a hundred and fifty feet away and killed the engine.
"Don't do anything reckless."
She held Grace back just as she was about to throw the door open. "We don't know if they have accomplices. Let me call Mark first."
In less than fifteen minutes, Damien and Mark arrived on the scene.
"I'll go knock on the door," Lottie volunteered. "They don't know my face, and as a woman, I might not trigger their defenses as much."
"No, it's too dangerous," Mark shot the idea down instantly. "I'll go."
