The scalding coffee spilled all over the middle-aged woman's uniform and splashed onto the back of Grace's hand.
"Oh my god!" the woman gasped, frantically brushing at her clothes.
Snapping back to reality, Grace scrambled to apologize in English, reaching out to help wipe the spill. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to. I'm really sorry..."
She hurriedly dug through her purse for tissues. As she did, her phone screen lit up.
The wallpaper was a photo of Gianna.
The middle-aged woman had been annoyed and was about to complain, but her gaze accidentally swept across Grace's phone screen, and she suddenly froze.
"Wait..."
Her eyes locked onto the screen, then shifted to Grace's haggard face.
Grace didn't notice the woman's reaction, continuing to apologize profusely. "How much was this shirt? I'll pay for the dry cleaning, I'm so sorry..."
"No, no need."
The woman waved her off, giving Grace a long, deep look as if she wanted to say something. In the end, she stayed silent, shaking her head before turning and walking into the taxi dispatch station next door.
Grace watched her go, feeling a twinge of guilt, but it was quickly overshadowed by the crushing anxiety of not finding her daughter.
Lottie returned with the sandwiches and saw what happened. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just bumped into someone." Grace shook her head exhaustedly. "Lottie, should we check the subway stations? What if he took a train?"
Lottie sighed. "Alright, let's give it a try."
They were just about to get into the car and leave.
Just then, a shout rang out from behind them.
"Hey! Wait! Stop!"
Grace instinctively turned around.
She saw the female driver whose shirt she had ruined running out of the dispatch station, panting heavily.
