After leaving the room, Maya went to the tavern to get something to eat because she was asked to leave. In the tavern, she bumped into someone because she wasn’t paying attention while walking.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t watch where I was going.”

“It’s alright, Maya.”

Upon hearing her name, Maya looked up; it was Ethan, the elf who regularly visited the information guild.

“What a coincidence, I didn’t expect to see you here.”

“I’m traveling with a friend, what are you doing here?”

Ethan replied with a hint of sadness on his face.

“I’m still looking for someone important to me.”

“I hope you can find her soon. I know you’ve been searching for her for a long time.”

“Really?”

“I overheard my brother talking about it.”

“There was a time when I thought I would never see that person again, but recently I’ve seen her. Now that I know she must be somewhere, I won’t rest until I bring her back to our home.”

Maya had been interested in Abril, but she had never really asked about her mother. At that moment, she wondered if she was still alive, and if so, why she was hiding from that elf. He seemed to genuinely care for the princess; otherwise, he would have given up and stopped searching for her. She said to him,

“Haven’t you thought that maybe that person doesn’t want to return? Otherwise, she would have already done so, don’t you think?”

The expression on Ethan’s face hardened, and his response was cold.

“It’s not that. I know there are good people among humans, but I also know how evil they can be. That’s why we can’t live among humans. I must go, take care.”

After Alessandro left the room, Cassian searched for Maya in the hallway, but she wasit there. Cassian approached one of the guards and asked,

“Do you know where Maya went?”

“Miss Maya went to the tavern, do you want me to go look for her?”

“No, I’ll go get her. You all prepare everything, we’ll leave immediately”

“As you command, Prince Cassian.”

When Cassian went to the tavern, he saw Maya calmly having breakfast at a table. He looked around for Ethan, and not finding him, he approached Maya and said,

“Why did you leave?”

“I didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to leave, plus I was hungry. When you left the room, you said you were going to grab breakfast, but when you came back, you didn’t bring any food, just the king, and even though he’s nice, I can’t eat him, besides, he’s already taken.

“Did you bump into anyone on your way here?”

“If you mean Ethan, then yes.”

“Did you talk to him?”

“Yes.”

“You didn’t mention Abril to him, did you?”

“Of course not, but we talked about the person he’s looking for.

Although he didn’t say who it was, he seems really determined to find her and bring her back to his kingdom. He said that those of his race couldn’t live among humans.”

Cassian frowned; they needed to make sure that man didn’t find out about Abril, because if he did, who knows what he might do.

“There’s something I’m curious about: is Abril’s mother still alive?”

“No, she died when Abril was a baby.”

“But that Ethan claimed to have seen her.”

“That was Abril; she had changed her hair color with magic. That day she had blonde hair, and according to Abril, she looked exactly like her mother. He must have mistaken her.”

“And do you think he’ll believe you?”

“Maybe not. When you’ve been searching for someone for so long, it’s hard to accept the truth when it’s harsh. I’ve seen many people come to the information guild, and when they get the information, they refuse to accept it.”

“Besides, he’s seen Abril. He thinks she’s the one he’s been searching for. Even if you tell him she’s dead, he won’t believe you.”

“You don’t want him to find out about Abril’s existence, do you?”

“No, you’ve already said that elves don’t allow those of their race to live among humans. Abril is my brother’s wife, and he loves her. He would never allow her to be taken away from him; that would lead him to starting a war.”

One of the guards approached them and said.

“Prince Cassian, we’re ready to leave.”

Cassian got up, put a silver coin on the table, and said,

“Time to head out.”

The journey that day was long; they used a bunch of teleportation scrolls, and by the time they got to the royal palace, it was pitch dark. Maya, upon seeing that magnificent castle, said,

“Wow, this place is amazing!”

“Glad you like it.”

When Abril stepped off the carriage, she felt dizzy after using so many scrolls, and Alessandro caught her in his arms.

“Yes, I’m just a little dizzy from the journey.”

Alessandro scooped her up and told the butler to get a bath ready for his wife and a light

meal.

“As you wish, Your Majesty.”

Alessandro carried Abril to their room, gently laid her down on the bed, and said,

“Take a rest, the maids will come to help you with the bath.”

“Are you leaving?”

“I’ve got something to do, but I won’t be long.”

Alessandro kissed her forehead and said,

“I promise.”

Alessandro left, and Abril laid in bed staring at the door. One of the things she hated most about being back in the palace was that Alessandro was always so busy and barely had time for her. They were back, and even though Alessandro had just walked through the door, she felt alone again, like she often did in that palace.

Alessandro went to his office, where Sirius was waiting for him. When he saw him, he stood up, bowed, and greeted him.

“Welcome, Your Majesty.”

“Thanks for coming so quickly.”

“Your message sounded urgent. How’s the princess?”

“She’s fine.”

“Her magic?”

“It’s under control, but she needs to learn how to control her magic by herself.”

“Is that why you summoned me?”

“Yeah, we’re about to start a war against the darkness. I don’t want her involved in this war, but I want her to be able to protect herself and keep her magic from getting out of control and putting her life at risk.”
