A Power That Can’t Be Hidden
Abril woke up with a severe headache. The light entering the room bothered her, so she used her
hand to block it from her eyes. The door opened, and she immediately heard Alessandro’s voice as
he hurried to her side, wrapped his arms around her and said with a broken voice, “Thank goodness you’re awake.”
Alessandro was hugging her tightly, and Abril felt she would be crushed if he didn’t let go.
“Lessan, you’ll make me faint if you keep hugging me so tightly.”
Alessandro loosened his embrace but didn’t release her; he was trembling slightly, and Abril asked,
“What happened? Did we win?”
“Yes.”
“That’s good, as it’s finally over.”
Abril replied somewhat sadly, knowing the victory came at a high cost; she had lost her mother
and her father, who, deep down, did love her.
Alessandro released her from his embrace. Earlier, she couldn’t see him well because her eyes
hadn’t adjusted to the light. Now, she noticed Alessandro looked pale and haggard, with a beard as
if he hadn’t shaved in days. Abril felt confused; after the battle, she had fainted, but how long had
she been unconscious? That was something she didn’t know. She looked around and realized she
was back in the royal palace.
“Lessan, how long have I been unconscious?”
“It’s been 15 days, and you hadn’t woken up. I was..
The words got caught in Alessandro’s throat; he had stayed by her side for 15 days, waiting for her to wake up. During that time, he hadn’t eaten properly and slept very little; throughout the time she
had been asleep, he hadn’t stopped praying to God for her to wake up.
He hugged her again and said, “I thought I had lost you.”
Abril was shocked to learn she had been unconscious for 15 days, but quickly realized how much Alessandro must have suffered during that time. She returned the hug and said, “I’m sorry, you
must have…”
“There’s nothing for you to apologize for.”
Abril didn’t know what to say to calm Alessandro’s anxious heart. So she simply held him close for
a while.
Once Alessandro had calmed down a bit, he realized Abril hadn’t eaten in fifteen days. He released
her and said,

“You must be hungry, I’ll get them to bring you something light to eat.”
Abril wasn’t aware of her hunger until Alessandro mentioned it.
“Honestly, I’m starving. I’d really appreciate it if you could do that.‘

Alessandro peeked out the door and called for the maids, who were nearby. That was an order
Alessandro had given when he returned to the palace; he wanted some maids to stay close,
waiting for Abril to wake up. He announced that his wife had woken up. All the maids rejoiced and
thanked the heavens for the queen’s awakening; Alessandro asked them to inform his brother and
to fetch something light for his wife to eat, and also to call the doctor to check on her.
When Alessandro returned to the room, Abril hit him with a barrage of questions about the war.
“Are Maya and Cassian okay? How did the war end? Were all the monsters destroyed or are there
more? What will happen to the kingdom of Laios?”
“Calm down, if you hit me with so many questions at once, I won’t know where to start. Besides,
right now you should only worry about yourself, about recovering.”
“I’m fine, I just want to catch up, I want to know what happened during these fifteen days I’ve been
asleep.”
Alessandro sighed, knowing that no matter what he said, Abril wouldn’t stop asking until she knew
everything that had happened, so he began to answer her questions in the order she had asked
them.
“Cassian and Maya are fine, you ended the war, all the monsters on the battlefield were destroyed by your flames, and as for what will happen to the kingdom of Laios, I still don’t know.”
“We won the war. I thought you would take control of the kingdom of Laios, or at least that’s what
Gabriel explained to me.”
“That’s the usual course of action, but even though we won the war, we don’t know what lies behind the walls of the kingdom of Laios. We can’t enter recklessly. We don’t know what we’ll find
there, since your siblings are still alive.”
For a moment, Abril had completely forgotten about her siblings; she remembered that Maya had come there to seek her help to defeat her sister since she was attacking the land of the fairies.
“That’s true, I had forgotten, we still need to defeat my sister Cira.”
“Yes, but right now there are more important things to worry about.”
“What things?”
One of the maids arrived with Abril’s food. Alessandro didn’t answer the question she had asked. The maid left the food and then left. Alessandro placed the tray beside the bed and began to feed

her. Abril said to him,
“I can do it myself.”
“You’re weak; you should let me help you.”

Abril felt hungry, but she didn’t feel weak. She wondered if it was because she had unleashed all
her magic, if it was her own power that was sustaining her, but she said nothing and just ate what
Alessandro gave her. She finished all the soup, but her hunger still wasn’t satisfied.
“Lessan, I’m very hungry, a simple bowl of soup won’t satisfy me.”
“Then I’ll ask them to bring another.”
“Actually, I’d prefer something that satisfies me a bit more.”
“You went 15 days without eating. It’s not good for you to eat heavy meals; it will make you sick.”
“But…”
“No buts, for a few days you’ll only be able to eat soft foods.”
As Alessandro headed towards the door, Abril said
“Lessan, I’m really fine, I don’t know how to explain it. Even though I’ve been unconscious for so long, my body doesn’t feel weak. Well, my head hurts a while ago, but now it doesn’t. Even though it was 15 days, I feel like it was just one, so don’t worry so much.”
Alessandro tightened his grip on the tray. Abril didn’t seem to be lying, and although it was hard for
him to believe, deep down he knew it was true; she was fine, and that was due to the great power
she harbored in her body, since, after breaking the last seal, it was something that could no longer
be hidden. That was something that made him feel nervous and anxious, because even if he tried,
he could no longer hide who Abril was, a princess off the elf kingdom. He replied with a somewhat
sad smile,
“I already know that.”
