examined Abril and confirmed she was okay. When the doctor left, Abril got out of bed. She was tired of being in bed and wanted to stretch a bit, go out to the balcony, and see the winter

landscape.

“Aby, what are you doing?”

“I want to stretch my legs a bit.”

Alessandro held her by the waist in case her legs failed her, but that didn’t happen. She wrapped

her arms around his neck and said,

“You look different.”

“What?!”

“It’s the first time I’ve seen you with a beard, and it seems a bit strange to me.”

“Don’t you like how I look?”

“I wouldn’t say I don’t like it, it’s just that it seems different to me.”

“I’ll shave later.”

Abril kissed him, and Alessandro’s beard tickled her She laughed and said,

“It tickles me; you definitely need to get rid of it.”

Abril’s cheerful laughter made Alessandro shed a few tears, which surprised Abril a lot.

“Lessan, what’s wrong?”

Alessandro hugged her tightly and replied,

“You don’t know how happy I am at this moment to be able to see your smile again, to hear the sound of your laughter, to hear your voice, to see your golden eyes looking at me, to feel your warm arms around me, to feel the softness of your lips through a kiss, to feel the sweet aroma that emanates from your body. I think until now I hadn’t realized how wonderful that is for me, how much I like it and how much I missed it. You are what gives meaning to my life, Aby, the reason for my existence. If I had lost you, I would no longer have reasons to live.”

Abril pulled away a bit; she wanted to see Alessandro’s face. Seeing his green eyes glassy with tears threatening to fall, seeing that face that had always seemed attractive to her and that expression of anxiety reflected on his face, she wished she could erase all those days when he had suffered believing he was losing her. Abril intertwined her left hand, where her wedding ring was, with Alessandro’s and said to him,

“On our wedding day, we swore to be together until death do us part, but even death won’t be able to separate us. If after death I have a second life, even in that life I will search for you and love you

again.”

Alessandro kissed her, his fingers running through her long red hair, and told her over and over

again as their mouths collided,

“I love you, Aby. I truly do.”

He didn’t stop repeating those words as he kissed every part of her face, as he got lost in her mouth, in every kiss he gave her. The door opened; t was Cassian who had entered without knocking, but Alessandro didn’t care. He ignored his brother and continued kissing his wife. Abril tried to pull away from him, but it was impossible; she was enchanted by Alessandro’s kisses.

Cassian, realizing he was being ignored, quietly left the room, and as he walked back down the hallway, he encountered Maya. After winning the war, he had been very busy as he had to take care of Alessandro’s duties since he had been out of it, staying by Abril’s side, leaving everything else

aside. And he had barely had time to be with Maya since Fay kept getting in the way between

them.

“Are you coming from seeing Abril?”

“Yes.”

“Is she okay?”

“I guess so, since she was having quite a passionate moment with my brother.”

“I’m glad she’s alright; I thought she might never wake up again.”

“Yes, we all thought that at some point, but I’m glad we were wrong.”

Cassian moved a bit closer to Maya, wrapped his arm around her waist, and said as he glanced around to ensure Fay wasn’t nearby.

Maya laughed at Cassian’s attitude and asked.

“Nothing, just making sure there aren’t any flies buzzing around.”

“Fay is having an audience with the elves.”

“Is he still pushing for an alliance with the elves?”

“Yes, and I’m sure he’ll manage it; he can be quite persistent when he wants something.”

Maya started to shed the thick layers of clothing she wore, kissed him eagerly, and said.

“What do you think?”

Cassian pressed his body firmly against Maya’s and replied.

“I’ll take that as a yes.”
