Part II: I’m Also Human

Abril spoke with Alessandro until her anxiety and fears were calmed. Once the conversation ended, she wanted to sleep, but she also needed a bath and a good meal.
She pulled the cord next to the bed, and a servant arrived within minutes. Abril recognized the servant; it was Liona, the maid who had taken care of her when she was a child–if one could call it care. In reality, Liona had only made her life more miserable than it already was.
Liona had heard they had important guests and were to be treated with respect. However, upon seeing who had summoned her, she straightened her back. Although the color of her hair was different, she knew who it was. Abril Venobich, the forgotten princess.
“What do you want?” Liona asked with great annoyance.
Seeing the disdainful attitude Liona was showing, Abril knew she had been recognized. It seemed Liona thought she was still the same foolish and naive princess everyone despised and trampled on. But that wasn’t the case; she was a different person now. She had ceased to be a forgotten princess, just as she had ceased to be a forgotten wife, to become a beloved queen.
Abril approached and said, “Do you know you are a servant?”
“What?!”
“I asked a question. Answer me. Do you know you are a servant?”
“Yes, I know,” Liona replied haughtily.
“Then you should know that a servant must bow her head to someone of higher status. But I don’t see you doing that. Do you want me to punish you?”
“Have you gone mad?!”
Abril wanted to teach Liona a lesson, to make her suffer for all the harm she had caused in the past. She created a silver fireball in her hand and responded, “No, I just want to discipline a servant who doesn’t know her place.”
Liona had always despised Abril because she thought she had no magic, that she was just a useless person she was forced to care for. But it seemed she had been mistaken. There was no trace left of the foolish and naive princess she once knew. Before her stood a woman who, despite her ragged appearance, exuded dignity and power with every word and movement.
Abril threw the fireball at Liona. The silver flames covered her body, and she panicked, screaming like a madwoman. “I’m burning, I’m burning!”

Abril’s silver flames did not harm humans; they only affected monsters or those possessed by darkness. Liona writhed and screamed as if the flames were searing her skin. Abril thought it was strange since she hadn’t sensed any trace of darkness in her.
The door burst open, and Sirius and Taren stormed into the room, along with the servant who had guided them to their quarters.
“What is happening here?” Sirius asked, seeing the maid covered in silver flames.
Abril made the flames disappear, and the maid stopped screaming. She checked her body and, seeing no burns, looked at Abril with terror and crawled backward like a vile worm.
“I was just educating this servant.”
“Monster! You’re a monster!” Liona screamed as she tried to flee the room, but Taren blocked her path and said, “I think that’s no way to treat guests. Without a doubt, you are an ill–mannered
servant.”
The servant behind them apologized on her behalf. “I’m very sorry. She must have lost her mind. I will ensure she receives appropriate punishment if you permit me.”
Abril was not someone who held grudges, but neither was she excessively kind, so she did nothing for Liona. “Do as you wish.”
The servant took Liona by the arm and dragged her out of the room.
Once they were alone, Sirius asked, “Was that girl possessed by darkness?”
“No, just scared.”
“She screamed as if she were really burning.”
“I know, but my silver flames don’t harm humans. On the contrary, they purify them. Perhaps she was so rotten inside that my flames affected her.”
“Are you sure she had no traces of darkness or monsters?”
“Yes, the darkness within her is her own.”
“Then why did you attack her?”
“I wanted revenge.”
Sirius was surprised to hear Abril’s words. Seeing his reaction, she said, “She was supposed to take care of me when I was a child, but she never did her job. On the contrary, she made my life
miserable.”
“I never imagined you were someone who held grudges.”

“I’m human. Just because I use light magic doesn’t mean I’m a saint. Sometimes I also get carried away by my emotions.”
Sirius turned halfway and, as he headed for the exit, said, “Try not to draw more attention than you already have.”
“Don’t worry, I don’t plan to.”
Sirius and Taren returned to their room, satisfied that everything was fine. They were just as tired as Abril, so they wouldn’t waste their precious rest time.
Abril planned to do the same, but she was still completely dirty. She pulled the cord next to her bed again and hoped that this time a good servant would come and do her job correctly.
