Forgotten Wife Let the traitors kneel Down (by Patricia Maradiaga) novel Chapter 258

Part II: A Strong Spirit

The dungeons were the worst place anyone could be sent to, and Liona was being taken there. She

knew she would receive severe punishment for what she had done, but she never imagined she

would be taken to the dungeons. She panicked, screaming and begging for mercy.

No, please! Mercy! Don’t take me to the dungeons!

One of the guards slapped her and said, Shut up, you brought this upon yourself.

Liona had always despised Abril and thought her actions would never be punished, but she was wrong. Abril Venobich was no longer someone to be scorned.

She stopped screaming for fear of being hit again, bitter tears streaming down her cheeks.

When they reached the dungeons, the smell of dampness and decay hit her nose. As they walked down the dark corridors, she heard the cries of the unfortunate souls imprisoned there.

They begged for death, pleaded for it as if a starving man begged for food to satiate his stomach, their pleas filled with utter despair.

Liona shuddered to imagine what she would have to endure in that place. She stopped dead in her tracks, wanting to run, but one of the guards stopped her, holding her by the shoulders. Don’t stop, keep moving.

With trembling legs, Liona continued forward, stumbling until they reached one of the cells. It was a dark and gloomy place. She refused to enter, planting her feet on the ground and clutching the bars, pleading not to be left there. But all she got for her troubles was a sound beating.

The guards locked the cell and left, taking the meager light of their lanterns with them and leaving her in thick darkness. Lying on the cold floor of that fetid cell, she cursed Princess Abril and hated her even more than she already had.

A maid arrived shortly after Abril summoned her. Compared to Liona, she was very kind and treated Abril with respect. She prepared her bath and gave her a change of clean clothes. She also brought her a delicious meal, then retired to let her rest.

Abril only slept a few hours before the maid woke her, saying the king required her presence.

Before following her, she called for Sirius and Taren to accompany her, as she didn’t quite trust her brother.

They were guided to the armory. Enzo was there waiting for her with a tall, wellbuilt man with

blond hair, brown eyes, and handsome features. Upon seeing her, he immediately introduced

himself with a bow.

Greetings, Your Majesty. I am Hans Boroski. If you need anything, do not hesitate to ask.

Abril asked Enzo, Does he know who I am?

Yes, he is my righthand man, so you don’t have to worry about him.

Does anyone else know my identity?

No, the only ones who know who you are besides us are dead. Well, except for the maid who is locked up in the dungeons. So stop wasting time with useless questions and bless my weapons. Night will fall soon, and I need to defend my kingdom.

Abril was a little annoyed by Enzo’s attitude but said nothing as she could see genuine concern for

his citizens reflected on his face.

Abril used her magic to bless every single weapon in the place.

When she finished, all the weapons had a slight glow. Seeing her work finished, she said, There, you can distribute these weapons among your soldiers.

That was very fast. Are you sure they will work?

In the past, blessing so many weapons with her light magic would have left her exhausted, but since she had broken all the seals, her power had grown immensely, and doing something like that

was no trouble at all.

I assure you they will work, but if you don’t believe me, you can test them tonight.

Enzo had been fighting a losing battle; he was desperate, so he couldn’t make too many objections. Even if he didn’t fully trust his sister, he had no choice but to believe her words.

Hans, distribute these weapons among the soldiers and tell them that tonight we will face the

monsters.

Hans bowed at the waist and replied, As you command, Your Majesty. I will see to it that the weapons are distributed immediately.

After Hans left the armory, Enzo took a sword and a few daggers from the weapons that had been blessed. After buckling his sword and hiding the daggers among his clothes, he asked Abril, When will you recover all your power?

Why do you ask?

Because to close the Hades Rift, you will need to have all your power. The rift is not small.

Besides, I need to know when all this will end.

The darkness and its monsters are stronger at night, so I think it would be best to do it in the morning. So I will try to do it tomorrow morning, but I would like to see the rift. I want to see with my own eyes how big it is.

We can go now if you wish.

Yes, let’s go.

Then follow me, although I warn you that that place can break men’s spirits. If your friends accompany you, they may not leave the way they entered.

Sirius had a strong spirit, so she wasn’t worried about being dominated by the darkness, and she knew Taren was the same, so she replied with complete confidence, We will be fine. If you haven’t been controlled by the darkness, neither will we.

Whatever you do, it’s your decision. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Abril was curious since Enzo had never been corrupted by the darkness, so she asked him, You have been very exposed to the darkness. How come it has never tried to control you?

Because it has tried to control me. You must have a strong spirit to deny it. The darkness will do anything to control you, offer you what you desire most, what you crave. It will play with your mind, and if you are not strong enough to overcome it, it will take over you, and you will end up as one of

its puppets.

Enzo walked out of the armory, Sirius, Taren, and Abril following him down the corridors to the deepest part of the palace. Enzo stopped in front of a black, locked door and said, This is the entrance. I advise you to stay close.

Standing before that sootblack door, Abril shuddered. She could feel all the darkness and evil behind it. When Enzo inserted the key into the lock, her whole body tensed because she knew that what awaited her behind that door was nothing good.
