Path The Best Shriray
Part II: The Best Strategy
The shadows, the king’s personal guards, appeared suddenly.
Abril ordered them to withdraw.
“But Your Majesty…”
“I’ll be fine. Leave us alone.”
“We’ll be close by if anything happens.”
Once they were alone, Ethan asked her, “What do you want to talk about?”
“It’s about the Elf Queen. I want to know what she’s up to and why she’s taken my daughter!”
“You know that half-elves are taboo for us. That doesn’t exclude the Elven Royal Family. Even though you’re her niece, the Queen sees your existence as an aberration, something that shouldn’t exist. Imagine what she must think of your daughter, the daughter of a half-elf.”
“Don’t sugarcoat the truth. Tell me, what does she plan to do with my daughter?”
“Lock her in the Malva Tower, until the end of her days.”
“My daughter is in that place?”
“No, Princess Kiara took the baby and brought her to her palace. She’s taking care of your daughter. She won’t let the Queen harm her. She’s always been against the archaic traditions and rules we live by. She wants you to get your daughter back.”
“Then why doesn’t she return her to me?”
“Because she’s a princess. As much as she dislikes the Queen’s decisions, there’s a limit to how far she can go. Returning your daughter to you without the Queen’s authorization would be.rebelling against her. She could be accused of treason and pay for her disobedience with blood.”
“How do you plan to help me get my daughter back?”
“If you want your daughter back, you must earn the Elf Queen’s favor. Because even if you manage to get her out of the Elf Kingdom, she’ll come back for you. She won’t rest until she takes you both
with her.”
“Earn her favor? How am I supposed to do that? She seems to hate me even though she doesn’t
even know me.”
“Actually, I don’t think it’ll be that difficult. The Elf Queen, Enora, loved her sister Sophia very much. She’s always felt guilty for not being able to help her sister. If it weren’t for your red hair, you’d be just like your mother, her spitting image. You can use that to gain her favor.”

And she’s not seen Enors is cold and crat very low things move her heart. But i can assure you that one of those things is her sister Sophia, your mother. Even though they were separated a g ime ago, she hart looking for her, anxiously awaiting her return. She wm torved me when refused to talk about her and how she died. That’s why can assure you that your best weapons your resemblance to your mother. The only hope you have of getting your daughter back is to win
the Elf Queen’s favor and affection, to appeal to her good side
“Your strategy stinks”
“If it doesn’t work, you can always steal your daughter”
I
“So you’re suggesting I go before her and ask for my daughter just like the
“No. If you do that, she’ll refuse. I’m telling you to go and get close to her to confuse her heart. Remember that time you changed your hair color? You should change it back to blonde. With Blonde hair, you’ll look exactly like Sophia, and the Queen won’t be able to book you up in the Mala Tower If you play your cards right, you’ll gain an ally and not an enemy. And I can assure you, you don’t want her as an enemy
Abril turned around. Before leaving, she said, “I don’t know what you’re up to, but if this is all a trap to get to your Queen, you’ll pay dearly”
“assure you this is no trap. I promised your mother I would protect you, and that’s what I’m trying to do, even if no one believes me.”
Abril had nothing more to say, so she returned to the palace. As she walked down the halls, she ran into Sirius, Seeing her strolling through the halls, he asked, “What are you doing here? You should be resting
“Ethan gave me some medicine, and I feel much better.”
“Ethan? What’s he doing here?”
“He says he wants to help me get my daughter back
“And you trust him?”
“No, but I don’t have many options either.”
Sirius was surprised to see Abril so calm. He told her, “I thought you’d be very upset since Lissana has been kidnapped.”
“And I am, but I can’t break down. I have to get my daughter back. For that, I need to have a cool head, no matter how heartbroken I am.”
Partit The Best Strategy
“I’m sorry. If I hadn’t delayed our return trip, perhaps…”
Claim
“You have nothing to apologize for. If it weren’t for you, I might still be in Laios.”
“If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask.”
“Thank you.”
“And His Majesty?”
“Resting.”
“The days you were unconscious, he practically didn’t sleep. He feels guilty for not being able to protect Lissana.”
“I know. He looked haggard and in a very bad state. I had to use magic to make him rest.”
“You shouldn’t use magic; it’s dangerous.”
“I’m fine.”
“And what do you plan to do now?”
“I’m going to get my daughter back.”
“When are you leaving?”
“If my magic has fully recovered, I’ll leave tomorrow morning.”
“Do you want me to come with you?”
“No. I want you to stay here and reinforce the kingdom’s barriers. I’m a little worried because there are still many monsters in Laios. I’m worried they might reach us here. Please, take care of the kingdom while we’re gone. And I’m worried that Cira might attack while we’re away.”
“Now that you mention it, I’m surprised she hasn’t attacked yet.”
“It worries me. She swore to take away everything I loved. It scares me to think what she’ll do.”
“I’ll do everything in my power to protect this kingdom.”
“Thank you. I’ll leave more peacefully knowing you’re here.”
The sun had already set completely. Abril said goodbye to Sirius and returned to her room.
Alessandro was still sound asleep. She lay down beside him and hugged him. She needed to feel his warmth. She needed support to stay sane, to keep from going mad with sadness and pain.

Abril had barely slept all night. She got up when the feet rays of sufi entered her room, called one of the maids, and asked her to prepare a bath She granted to have a good soak hefore getting out

on her journey
After preparing the bath, the maid headed for the wardrobe, but Abril had already chosen her
clothes.
“You can go now, I’ve already chosen my clothes.
When the maid left, Abril approached the bed to check on Alessandro. He was still sound asleep Not wanting to wake him, she went straight to the bathroom and stepped into the tub, the warm water enveloping her body felt pleasant.
Alessandro tilted his head back to look at Abril’s face. There were dark circles under her eyes; she must not have slept much that night. But even though she looked a little haggard, she looked well. The color had returned to her face completely, and her lips, which a few days ago had been pale, were now a soft red again. Still, he wanted to make sure.
“Yes, I can feel it flowing through me, so don’t worry, I’m fine now.”
“Then I’ll see you at the entrance. I’ll have a servant call Ethan so he can meet us there too.”
“Sounds good.”
After Alessandro left, Abril put on a white tunic, black trousers, and a golden belt around her waist. They were simple clothes that would provide comfort on her journey. She also took a black cloak with embroidery around the edges. She brushed her hair and left it loose. In a bag, she packed some clothes for Lissana, as well as her favorite rattle.
Cassian wanted to tell him that she wasn’t well, that her health had deteriorated a lot and that she might not get better. He wanted to unburden his pain, to tell Abril how terrified he was that she might die. But she had already been through enough with losing Lissana. He didn’t want to burden her with his worries, so he decided to keep his pain to himself and not say anything unnecessary.
“Hello, Maya.”
Yes, it’s back, and it’s worse now I don’t even have he strength to get out of bed
Abri took Maya’s hand and said. Til make you feet Better?
“Don’t waste your magic on me. You’ll need it to get Lissana back
2
“Yes, but using my magic on you would never be a waste. You’re my precious friend, and 1 dort want to see you suffer
Maya started to cry.
Abril handed her a handkerchief and asked, “What’s wrong. Maya?! Are you in pain???”
“My heart. Cassian already knows I’m sick and that don’t have much time left.”
At that moment, Abril understood why Cassian had looked so downcast.
Abril hugged Maya, not knowing what to say to comfort her.
“I didn’t tell him about my illness, and I hurt his feelings, Aby.”
“Something similar happened to me with Lessan, so I know how you feel.”
“Was it because of Lissana’s powers?”
“Yes, if I had told Alessandro the truth, maybe this wouldn’t have happened. But well, there’s no point in dwelling on what could have been, if it never will be.”
“You’re right.”
Abril took Maya’s hands and began to infuse her magic into her. Maya could feel the improvement almost instantly. The heaviness and coldness in her body disappeared.
“Don’t give up, Maya. Fight with all your might, fight to your last breath.”
“I had accepted my fate and surrendered, but no more. I won’t die without a fight.”
“That’s the spirit.”
Maya hugged Abril tightly and said, “Thank you so much, Aby. I should be the one cheering you up, comforting you right now. I’m sorry I couldn’t stop them from taking Lissana.”
“Don’t worry. I know they did everything they could to stop them from taking her, and thank you for taking care of her while I was gone.”

Part # Don’t Give Up
“She’s adorable. While I was taking care of her, it made me want to have more time so I could have
children of my own.”
“I’m sure you’ll find a way to cure your illness and you’ll be able to have all the children you want.”
“That would be wonderful.”
“I really wish there was something more I could do for you.”
“Don’t worry, this is enough. You’ve given me time to find a way to save myself.”
“I should go.”
“Have a good trip, Aby, and good luck.”
“Same to you.”
“See you soon, Aby.”
