Part II: A new enemy
Sophia followed her sister in silence as they traversed the palace corridors. Thousands of memories flooded her mind; this was her home, the place she had always longed to return to but never did out of
fear. When they reached the garden, Sophia looked around with wide, bright eyes full of emotion. The
garden was filled with colorful flowers, and there was a small gazebo in the middle, draped with vines
bearing hundreds of tiny blue flowers. The sun had begun to set, casting a warm, soft golden light over the
garden, making it look even more beautiful.
“This place looks exactly the same as the day I left Arkala,” Sophia said.
“This was your favorite garden, so I asked them to take care of it. I wanted you to enjoy it when you
returned,” Enora replied.
“Thank you so much. I’m very happy to have the opportunity to see it once more.”
“It doesn’t have to be just one more time, Sophia. You could stay and…”
“NO! I’ve already lived a life; this one belongs to my daughter.”
“But… I wish I could be with you a little longer, sister. I don’t want to say goodbye just after finding you. I’m
not asking for forever, just for a while.”
Sophia shook her head and looked into the distance, where the sun was almost completely hidden behind
the tall mountains.
“Enora, I haven’t come to stay. I came to convince you to let my daughter be happy, to not insist on keeping her here.”
“You know it’s forbidden to have half–breeds. They are dangerous and must be confined in the Malva
Tower. Those are our laws.”
“And it’s precisely because of those stupid laws that I never dared to return. That’s why I hid my daughter by sealing her magical power. To protect her, I gave up my life.”
Sophia approached Enora, took her hand, looked her directly in the eyes, and said, “Enora, don’t torture my
child. Don’t make her suffer, because when you do, it’s as if you’re doing it to me. A part of my soul is still
connected to Abril’s. I can feel her pain, her despair, and her sadness.”
“You’re lying.”
“No, even though I’ve crossed into the spiritual world, I couldn’t do so completely. I thought our bond
would break when she broke the last seal that blocked her power, but it didn’t.”
“I could let her go, but not her daughter. That child, even though she’s just a baby, has overwhelming
power. She cannot live among humans.”
“Of the two, she’s the one you can’t keep, sister, because guardian blood runs through her veins.”

What?! thats not possiblet the guardians disappeared a long time ago.

“And so they did, but Alessandro is the son of the last guardian. He and his daughter are untouchable. No
clan can harm them.”
“So that’s why he could cross the barrier without any problem!”
“Exactly. Even though they don’t know it, he is part of a clan even older than the elves or the fairies.”
“Are you sure that man shares blood ties with the guardians?”
“Yes, and that’s why the child is so powerful.”
“He doesn’t know, does he?”
“No, it seems his mother never told him who she really was. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have been able to
take the child, because possessing guardian blood makes one untouchable.”
Enora seemed very confused and didn’t seem to believe what Sophia was saying.
“If
you think I’m deceiving you, you could take him to the Guardian’s Gate. That way, you can confirm that
what I’m saying is true.”
“It’s not that I don’t believe you, Sophia, but you would do anything for your daughter.”
“Don’t worry, you don’t offend me. It’s the truth. That’s why I’m asking you to verify what I’m saying. As for my daughter, that’s a decision you have to make. Will you set her free, or will you lock her in the Malva Tower? Though I hope you don’t choose the latter.”
“I’ll think about it.”
“I understand it’s not an easy decision to make, but I hope that until you make your decision, you don’t lock
her in the Malva Tower. I wouldn’t want her to hate the place I loved so much.”
“Alright, I won’t lock her up. I’ll let her roam the kingdom, though I’ll have to put her under surveillance.”
“I understand. Enora, show my daughter how beautiful and wonderful Arkala is.”
“Yes, I will. I’ll show your daughter your favorite places. I’ll show her the kingdom you loved so much.”
Sophia released her hand and walked towards the small gazebo. Before reaching it, she turned around
and said, “Thank you, sister, thank you for fulfilling my last wish.”
Enora felt that her sister would disappear at any moment. She ran to her side, took her in her arms, and
said, “Don’t go, Sophia! Stay with me a little longer.”
“Alright, I’ll stay a little longer.”

Both sat on a bench in the gazebo. Enora summarized everything that had happened in the years shBIG! been away, even daring to tell her about her relationship with Dantriel. Sophia listened attentively to everything she said and laughed more than once at what she heard. After Enora finished speaking, silence

“What are you thinking about, Sophia?”
“That you’ve changed.”
“I don’t think so.”
“Of course you have. Now you seem warmer than before.”
“Did I seem that cold before?”
“Maybe a little.”

“Sophia, what happened when you left Arkala? Dantriel said you were weak after giving birth and that using your magic to seal your daughter’s powers cost you your life.”
“Yes, it’s true.”
“That damned human…”
“He’s dead. We crossed the spiritual barrier together. Although our time in the human world was short, in the spiritual world, we can be together forever.”
“How can you want to be by his side after everything he did to you?”
“Because I know he didn’t do it because he wanted to or felt it. His mind was manipulated by darkness.”
“And that’s proof of how weak he was, how useless.”
“I was weak too. I couldn’t save him.”
“There’s something that’s always intrigued me. Why couldn’t you get rid of the darkness within him? Even if you were weak, your magic was powerful.”
“It’s because what possessed him wasn’t something normal. The darkness within him was something that had come from the depths of Hades, and now something like that has just emerged again and threatens to destroy our world.”
