Part II: The danger of great power
Dantriel went to visit Enora in her chambers. When he entered, she had just finished bathing, and her hair was still damp. Dantriel approached her and said, “You should dry your hair before going to sleep; otherwise, you might get sick.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that girl was like Sophia?” Enora asked.
“I didn’t think it was necessary,” Dantriel replied calmly.
“Did you know that Sophia’s soul could enter that body?”
“Yes, but Princess Sophia asked me to keep it a secret, so I didn’t mention it.”
“They look exactly the same. For a moment, I thought it was Sophia.”
“Actually, her hair isn’t blonde. She inherited her father’s red hair, but she must have changed it.”
“Why?”
“You hate her father. If you had seen any resemblance to him, you would have treated her even worse.”
“I suppose you’re right.”
“And what do you plan to do now?” Enora asked.
“I want to fulfill Sophia’s last wish. Besides, without anything to hold her here, I’m sure she will eventually
escape.”
“What do you mean by ‘nothing to hold her here‘?”
“Her husband and daughter are part of the Guardian lineage.”
“I thought there weren’t any left!”
“It seems that’s not the case. They’ve become untouchable. Even though I don’t like it, I have to obey the Guardians like all the clans do; we’re bound to them.”
“I’ve never understood that. Why do all the clans have to obey the Guardians?”
“Because they’re the only ones who can close the Gates of Hades if they’re ever opened. They would be
the only ones who could save us.”
“It’s been thousands of years since the Gates of Hades were last opened.”
“And I wish it would remain that way, but I don’t think our peace will last much longer. The Gates of Hades will be opened again.”
“What?! I thought that after defeating King Venobich, everything was over.”
“It seems there’s someone trying to open the Gates of Hades, and from what Sophia told me, it’s inevitable this time. A new war is coming, and the clans will have to unite again and fight against the darkness.”
Part # The danger of great power
“Why would it bother me that you’re not staying? I just wanted to have a good time, but if that’s not possible, maybe I should call someone else to warm my bed.”
Dantriel closed the distance between them, took Enora by the waist, and said, “You don’t have to call anyone else because I’m here.”
“I thought you were in a hurry to leave. Weren’t you going to see your friend?”
“Ethan can wait until tomorrow, but it seems my lady can’t. So I’ll stay with you.”
Ethan was still standing by the palace gates, waiting for Dantriel or anyone else to tell him what was happening inside, to tell him what had happened with Abril. The guards told him, “It’s late; you should
leave.”
“I won’t leave until I know what’s going on in there.”
“Do as you like, but you know it’s useless.”
Ethan remained standing, leaning against the palace wall. Even though they told him it would be best to go, he couldn’t. In part, he felt responsible for the situation.
“Good evening, Your Majesty.”
Ethan looked up when he heard the guards, and when he did, he saw Princess Kiara. She crossed the palace gates and said to him, “Come have a drink with me.”
“What happened?”
“Come with me, and you’ll find out.”
Ethan followed Kiara down a few streets. After turning a corner, away from the guards‘ watchful eyes, she
stopped, extended her hand, and said, “Give me back what I gave you.”
“First tell me what happened with Abril. Has she been locked in the Malva Tower?”
“No, my mother won’t do anything. At the moment, my cousin and her family are being treated as guests, so you don’t need to worry about them.”
“Did the queen agree to let them go?”
“Yes. I’ve already told you what you wanted to know. Now hand over my necklace.”
Ethan took out the small compass he had in his pocket and said, “Here it is. Thanks for lending it to me.”
Kiara snatched it from his hands and examined it carefully, making sure it was the original and not a copy.
Once satisfied, she tucked it into her pants pocket. “You’re welcome.”
Kiara continued walking down the street, and Ethan said to her, “You don’t have any guards. I’d better walk with you.”
“I can take care of myself just fine, and I want to be alone, so don’t follow me.”

Part: The danger of great power
Kiara kept walking, and Ethan called after her, “Be careful, Princess.”
“I always am,” she replied.
