When Abril woke up, the first thing she did was touch her daughter’s small body, needing to confirm that she had truly gotten her back and that it wasn’t just a dream. Alessandro was awake;

he placed a hand on her shoulder and said, Relax, Aby, everything is fine.”

It still feels like a dream, that when I wake up, I’ll be alone again.”

Alessandro caressed Abril’s cheek, gently brushing her with his fingertips, and said, It’s not a

dream; this is our reality. We’re together, Aby.

You’re right.

It’s still very early; get some more sleep.

You haven’t slept at all; you should rest. I’ll keep watch.

I’m fine, so sleep a bit more. You need to rest; you’ve been through a lot these past weeks.

Abril still felt her body heavy. Although she had fully regained her magic, she still had to deal with the exhaustion she had accumulated over the past few weeks. Close your eyes and sleep; I’ll

sleep afterward.

Abril gave a big yawn and said, Alright, I’ll sleep for a couple more hours, but if you’re tired, don’t

hesitate to wake me.

I will. Now go back to sleep.

Abril closed her eyes and fell asleep almost instantly.

Alessandro let her sleep until the sun rose. She had told him to wake her after a couple of hours, but he didn’t. He let her sleep until Lissana’s cries woke them because she was hungry. Abril went to the table with food still abundant in the room. She used her flames to heat the milk and fed her baby. When she finished, someone knocked on the door of their room. It was one of the elven

queen’s servants.

Princess Abril, Her Majesty the Queen requests your presence.

Alessandro and Abril looked at each other. They didn’t know the queen’s intentions in seeing them, but they needed to speak with her if they wanted to leave that place, so they opened the door.

Take us to your queen.

Follow me, please.

Abril and Alessandro followed the servant, with the guards stationed at the door trailing behind them at a short distance. The servant led them through a narrow corridor that opened into a large golden dome where the elven queen stood in front of a massive brown door with strange carvings

You may leave, the queen ordered the guards and the servant who had brought them there.

Once alone, Abril said, Everything is supposed to be settled. Why can’t we leave?

Firstly, because I promised your mother I would show you Arkala. She wants you to know the place where she was born. Secondly, because I want to verify that this man is truly a guardian.

That’s why I’ve brought you here.

I didn’t know I had to pass a test.

It’s just to ensure that he genuinely has guardian blood.

And if he doesn’t?

You don’t want to know.

So letting us go was a lie,Abril said, frowning and with eyes burning in anger.

It’s no lie. I just want to confirm that his lineage isn’t a falsehood.

And what am I supposed to do?Alessandro asked, stepping forward to shield Abril with his body.

You just need to open that door.

What’s behind it?

I don’t know. Only guardians can open it and enter. What’s inside is unknown to me.

And if there’s a monster?

I don’t think there’s a monster. From what I’ve heard, what’s inside is something only guardians can use and consult when they need an answer. But as I said before, I have no idea what it will be.

Enora exchanged glances with Abril and continued, Also, no negative energy is emanating from

that door.

Abril didn’t sense any negative energy behind that large door either. Whatever was inside didn’t seem dangerous. Alessandro looked at Abril, silently asking her a question. No danger?

She responded with a nod. Alright, I’ll open the door.

Enora smiled, pleased with Alessandro’s response, and said, I’m glad to see you’ve made the right

decision.

Enora glanced at the baby and said to Abril, It’s dangerous for the child to be here. Take her away.Abril was alarmed by what the queen had just said. So what’s inside is dangerous!

Not for us, but for someone so small with uncontrolled power, it can be dangerous.
