Cassian asked the servants to prepare a grand banquet that day and to invite the kings and their guests to join them for lunch, as he had a very important announcement to make. When lunchtime arrived, Maya and Cassian were the first to arrive; both wanted to greet everyone in the dining room. The first to arrive were Barto and Kiara, both holding hands, which took Cassian by surprise.

“Did you two already know each other?” he asked.

“Yes, that’s why I came to the human world, to see my beloved,” Kiara replied.

“Wouldn’t that make us family?” Cassian wondered.

“I don’t think so, so don’t mention it,” Kiara said firmly.

“Alright,” Cassian agreed.

Maya gave them a sweet smile and said, “I’m glad you sorted out the misunderstanding.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be so rude. I thought Barto had betrayed me,” Kiara admitted.

“Don’t worry. If I were in your place, I would have reacted even worse than you did, so let’s forget about it,” Maya reassured her.

“I should introduce myself properly,” Kiara said.

“That would be good,” Maya agreed.

Kiara extended her hand to Maya. “I am Kiara Babette, Princess of Arkala, firstborn of Enora Babette, Elven Queen.”

Maya looked at her brother upon hearing that the elven girl was a princess. “And you talked about me dating a prince?”

Barto ignored his sister’s comment and changed the subject. “We’ve been told you have an important announcement to make. What is it?”

“Let’s wait for Abril and Alessandro. We’ll tell you once everyone is here,” Cassian said.

“You’re worrying me, sister. What’s going on?” Barto asked.

“There’s nothing to worry about. It’s not bad news; on the contrary, it’s something good,” Maya reassured him.

“That’s why the banquet?” Barto asked.

“Yes, so don’t worry.”

Alessandro and Abril soon arrived, and once everyone was gathered, Cassian said, “Please, take a

seat.”

After everyone sat down, the servants began serving the food. Abril, intrigued by the gathering, asked, “Will you tell us now why you called us here?”

Cassian took Maya’s hand, intertwining his fingers with hers. After giving her a sweet look, he began to speak. “Maya and I have made a decision that will change our lives forever, and we

wanted to share it with you.”

“What decision have you made, Maya?” Barto asked.

“We’ve decided to get married,” Maya responded with a big smile.

Abril and Alessandro congratulated them simultaneously. Then Kiara congratulated them, but Barto did not. Maya asked him, “Aren’t you going to congratulate me?”

“Congratulations on your wedding,” Barto said flatly.

Abril was very excited about the wedding. After everything that had happened, a wedding was something wonderful. “When will the wedding be?” she asked.

“In a week,” Maya replied.

“In a week! That’s too soon,” Abril exclaimed.

“I know, but we’ve waited long enough, so we’ll have a simple wedding with the people we love,” Maya explained.

“Even so, a week is a short time,” Alessandro said.

Abril, who had found out she was getting married on the same day as her wedding, didn’t know what it was like to organize one, but she wanted to help Maya make her wedding wonderful. She stood up, leaving her meal unfinished. “Then we should start immediately. I’ll help you organize it, though I don’t know much about weddings here.”

“Neither do I,” Maya admitted.

“I’ve never been to a human wedding, but I’ve been to fairy weddings, which are marvelous,” Abril

said.

“It’s your wedding; you can do whatever you want, whatever makes you happy and comfortable. But the dress is important, so I’ll call the best designers to bring their best dresses,” Abril said before hurrying off.

Alessandro watched her leave and then said to Cassian, “You can count on me for anything you

need.”

“You can start by taking on your duties. I’ll be very busy preparing my wedding,” Cassian replied.

“Count on it,” Alessandro assured him.

Barto, who had remained silent until then, said to Maya, “You can also count on me for anything you need.”

“I plan to take you up on that. I want you to invite everyone from the guild to my wedding. I grew up with them; they are my family.”

“Just tell me the day, time, and place, and I’ll make sure everyone is there,” Barto promised.

“Also, tell Dad.”

“He’ll be the first to know.”

“Thanks, brother.”

After the meal, Barto and Kiara left, and Maya also excused herself, claiming she had things to do. The truth was that the food had made her feel sick, and she felt nauseous. She just wanted to be alone so she could vomit without worrying Cassian.

Cassian and Alessandro were left alone. “Congratulations on your marriage, brother. I hope you are very happy,” Alessandro said.

“I already am, brother,” Cassian replied.

“Then may that happiness be long and lasting.”

“I hope so too, and I wish the same for you.”

Maya had hidden in the first room she found and vomited everything she had eaten. “This is horrible. Why do I feel so nauseous?” she wondered.

Maya lay on the floor until she felt better. As she left the room, she met Abril in the hallway. Seeing how pale she looked, Abril asked, “Maya, are you alright?”

“Yes, don’t worry,” Maya replied.

“I’ve already asked the designers to come. They’ll be here this afternoon,” Abril informed her.

“Thanks for your help, Aby.”

“Have you thought about how you want your wedding to be?”

“Yes, I want it to be in the garden, surrounded by flowers, with the blue sky above our heads.”

“Yes, that sounds good.”

As they walked through the garden, Abril asked Maya, “Do you know when you’ll go to the fairy

kingdom?”

“I haven’t decided yet, but I’d like to go soon.”

“Is that why you want to get married so soon?”

“Yes, although it sounds selfish, I don’t want to leave without having united my life with Cassian’s in every possible way, without wearing the marriage mark on my hand to remind me that he will be waiting for me.”

Abril looked at the marriage mark on her own hand and began to say, “My marriage wasn’t out of love. At that time, I didn’t understand the value of this mark, but now I do. My heart and life are bound by an invisible bond to Alessandro’s, a bond that nothing can break and that reminds me I’m

Abril shook her head. “Even though I don’t have good memories of my wedding, I don’t want to change them because everything I’ve been through has made me who I am now. So, I’ll keep my sad memories to smile even more in my happy moments.”

“I admire your strength. I don’t know if I could think the same way,” Maya said.

“You are strong, Maya, stronger than you think. You just haven’t realized it yet,” Abril assured her.

Maya suddenly stopped in the garden of pink hydrangeas, “Here, I want to celebrate my wedding

here.”

“Are you sure? There’s a rose garden further ahead,” Abril pointed out.

“No, I want it to be here because pink hydrangeas symbolize love, which makes this place perfect for pledging eternal love,” Maya explained.

Part II: News To Celebrate

Maya and Abril spent the entire afternoon searching for a wedding dress. All the dresses were

beautiful, but none caught Maya’s attention–they were pompous and uncomfortable. She didn’t

want to be uncomfortable on her special day.

“Maybe I should get married in pants and a tunic. I don’t want to wear an uncomfortable dress on my wedding day.”

“I understand. I hated my wedding dress too; it was super uncomfortable. That’s why we’re going

to find a dress that’s comfortable and light for you. You can’t wear something so simple on your

special day.”

Maya let out a long sigh. “I’m tired. This is harder than I thought.”

One of the seamstresses pulled out a simple white dress with a straight skirt, a V–neckline and back, and long sleeves with beautiful lace embroidery. Maya was enchanted when she saw it; it was daring and seemed light.

“I’ll try that one.”

“It’s beautiful,” Abril commented.

Maya hurried to try on the dress. When she showed it to Abril, she asked, “How does it look?”

“Stunning.”

The simplicity of the veil made the lace of the dress stand out even more, so Maya accepted it

without hesitation.

“It fits the dress well.”

Maya took off the dress and the veil, and everything was packed into a large box. Abril instructed the maids to take it to one of the empty rooms and ensure that Cassian wouldn’t see it.

“Why hide the dress?” Maya asked, very puzzled.

“They say it’s bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding.”
