“That’s right, but that’s not the only reason I came to see you. I actually wanted to ask about some mirrors

used for communication. My brother mentioned they were here.”

“That’s right, they are fae objects, created by the best craftsman our kingdom has ever had.”

“Abril has to return to the human world and separate from her daughter. Could you lend them to us? It

would only be for the time we’re here; we would return them afterward.”

“And what guarantee do I have that what you say is true? As I said before, these are valuable fae objects,

and the only person who could make them is dead. It’s not something I can lend just like that.”

“I pledge my life as a guarantee. I won’t leave here until the mirrors are returned to you.”

The queen thought for a moment and said, “Alright, if you want them, you’ll have to go get them.”

“I thought you had them?”

“Such a valuable object must be well–guarded.”

“And where are they?”

“They are in the Cave of Dreams.”

Maya had heard of the Cave of Dreams. Despite its beautiful name, that place was anything but beautiful. Obtaining those mirrors would not be easy.

After breakfast, Maya went to find Abril. She and the others were having breakfast in the dining room. Cassian asked, “Why didn’t you wake me to accompany you?”

Maya kissed him on the cheek and said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to wake you. You seemed tired.”

“What did you need to talk to the queen about?”

“It was about yesterday’s conversation. I remembered my brother had told me about some magical mirrors in the land of the fairies, so I went to ask the queen about them.”

Maya turned to Abril. “We can use the mirrors to stay in touch when you go back to Cosset, so you can see Lissana grow even if you’re not with her.”

“And the queen agreed to give them to us?”

“She agreed to lend them to us, but we have to go get them. They’re kept in the Cave of Dreams.”

“I knew the queen wouldn’t give them to us so easily,” added Kiara.

“Why?” Abril asked, intrigued by what Kiara had said.

“I’ve come to the land of the fairies several times for diplomatic reasons. On one of those visits, I went to
