Part II: My Worst Fear

Abril was more than determined to find the mirrors Maya had mentioned. She hated leaving her daughter behind, hated not being able to watch her grow up. These mirrors were an opportunity to make their separation less painful. Abril wanted to know more about the Cave of Dreams, so she began to bombard Kiara with questions. Kiara had mentioned she had seen many horrors, so Abril wanted to know exactly what she would be facing in that cave.
“Kiara, what did you see in that cave?”
“My worst nightmares.”
“What?”
“In that place, you see what you fear the most, what you hate the most, and what you love the most. That place plays with your mind; its only purpose is to break you.”
“I thought there were monsters?”
“That depends on what you fear. If you’re afraid of a terrifying monster, it will materialize and attack. If you defeat it, then what you hate the most will come next. You must face your greatest hatred, and finally,
what you love the most will appear. The cave will try to hold you. If you don’t have a will of iron, it’s better
not to enter. Forget about those mirrors. Believe me, it’s not worth going through all that for some simple
mirrors.”
“I can’t. My daughter is my greatest treasure. I can’t pass up the opportunity to watch her grow just
because I’m afraid.”
“You seem very determined. I won’t try to stop you.”
“Thank you very much, because even if you tried, it would be useless. I won’t give up. I’ve made a decision,
and nothing and no one will change my mind.”
“Then I’ll accompany you to the Cave of Dreams, but I won’t go in.”
“I would appreciate that very much.”
“And when do you want to go?”
“Today,” Maya said.
“Aby, don’t rush so much. You’ll be here for a few days. Don’t rush; the mirrors won’t go anywhere. Now focus on enjoying your daughter.”
“I suppose you’re right. There’s still time,” Abril said.
“We can go in three days, so you’ll have time to think it over,” Kiara suggested.
Maya had woken up very early, so she said goodbye to get some rest as she still wasn’t feeling well. For the rest of the day, Abril wandered around the palace.

The next day, Maya took them to walk around the land of the fairies. As they walked, everyone stared at them. Several recognized Abril, the saint who had saved them from the darkness. Those who did bowed
their heads and thanked her.
“The fairies tend to be very grateful,” Maya said.
“Well, the queen doesn’t seem very grateful,” Cassian remarked.
“She is. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have let Aby stay here, and much less would she have accepted Lissana. She only allowed it because, although her pride prevents her from saying it, she is very grateful for your
help in saving her kingdom.”
As they walked through the colorful streets filled with fairies who were having fun and laughing, Abril felt glad to have helped, to have the power to save and fight for those who couldn’t.
On the third day, as promised, Kiara took Abril to the Cave of Dreams. The entrance to the cave was
guarded by two sentries.
“What are you doing here?” one of the guards asked.
“I want to enter the cave,” Abril replied without hesitation.
“No one can enter this cave without the queen’s permission,” the guards said.
“Then it’s good that I have the queen’s permission,” Abril responded, pulling out a small note with a golden
seal on it. The two guards examined it closely and said, “Then you may enter.”
Before entering, Kiara said to her, “Be very careful and remember that nothing in there is real.”
“Yes, I’ll keep that in mind.”
Upon entering the cave, Abril felt a great force pass through her body. An odd, faint sensation that both
absorbed and pushed her out at the same time. Abril continued deeper into the cave; the further she went,
the darker and colder it became. She created a ball of fire in her hand to light the cave, but the light
seemed to be swallowed by the darkness.
So she decided to try something else. Walking in the dark without knowing what was in front of her made
her very nervous and anxious. She used her light magic to create small fireflies that illuminated the cave.
When she could finally see clearly, she thought she saw a human figure approaching her.
“Hello,” Abril shouted, trying to get a response. But the approaching figure did not reply.
Abril felt something groan and move in her heart. A sensation as if lightning had struck the secret room hidden by her subconscious. ‘Wait, no one is supposed to enter without authorization… If someone else
had entered before her, the fairies at the entrance would have told her.‘
It had to be the first thing Kiara had mentioned, what she feared the most. Abril felt a terrifying, pulsating wave groaning in the corner of her heart. She ignited her hands with her silver fire and prepared to discover what her greatest fear was.
Part II My Worst Fear
From the darkness emerged a tall, thin, completely black monster with a human shape. Its sharp claws scraped the cave walls, producing a terrifying sound. Abril felt as if her soul left her body when she saw that creature because what she feared most was not the creature itself but the possibility of not being able to defeat it.
Since her magic had been fully unleashed, Abril had faced many monsters, even larger and more terrifying than the one in front of her, but she did not fear them because she knew how to defeat them easily. But that creature was something she didn’t know how to overcome on her own.
“This is not real, this is not real,” she repeated to herself over and over, wishing it would disappear. The creature’s claws flew toward her. Abril dodged them instinctively, but she hadn’t been fast enough. Something wet and warm slid down her cheek. It was blood.
Blood!
“This is not an illusion! It’s real! This creature is real!”

Part II: Hatred
Abril felt her heart pounding a thousand beats per minute. She began attacking the creature with her fire, but it had no effect. The creature struck back, and Abril only had time to tilt her head slightly to avoid its
claws.
The claws grazed her neck, and a thin trickle of blood warmed her skin. If they had gone a bit deeper, they would have severed her jugular, and she would have died from blood loss.
The creature launched another attack, its claws sweeping in a wide arc so close to her head that Abril had
to throw herself backward, landing on her butt on the ground.
A rough voice emerged from the creature’s mouth, sending chills down her spine.
“Today you will die, bearer of light. I will make you beg for your life and pay for all the blood you have
spilled.”
The creature gave her a twisted smile, baring all its teeth menacingly.
“You are not real,” Abril shouted as she alternated between her silver and gold flames, hurling them at its
face while getting back on her feet.
“I am real because you believe I am, and I will prove it to you.”
What do I do now? How do I defeat it?
Standing tall, she looked around for something to fight with. It was evident she wouldn’t win this battle
with her magic alone. She had to fight if she wanted to survive, even though she wasn’t sure if what she
was experiencing was real or not.
Not far from where she stood, there were two golden daggers. She just needed to step back a little more
to reach them. But for every step she took, the creature took two, its completely black eyes fixed on her.
Abril had to be faster. She ran to where the daggers were, and just as she bent down to pick them up, the
sound of claws slicing through the air whistled past her.
Abril grabbed the daggers and stood up like a flash. When the creature’s claws attacked again, the two crossed daggers blocked the next strike.
The creature let out a hoarse laugh.
“Why don’t you give up? You can’t defeat me.”
Abril planted her feet firmly on the ground. The creature was so strong that she could barely hold it back.
It was strong, fast, and its skin was tough. Abril had no idea how she was going to defeat it.
But suddenly, like a whip, Kiara’s words came to her mind.
“Remember that nothing here is real.”

And the creature’s words echoed in her mind.
“I am real because you believe I am.”

It was her mind that had created it. Nothing was real. If this monster had materialized from her fears, it
meant she just needed to think of something different, another fear, and believe it strongly enough to
deceive the cave.
Spiders. When she was little, she had hated them because they were everywhere in the dilapidated palace where she had grown up.
Abril began to recall the fear she had felt back then, how much she trembled every time she saw a small
