Forgotten Wife Let the traitors kneel Down (by Patricia Maradiaga) novel Chapter 318

Part II: How to Overcome Hate

Cira stood up, her clothes torn to shreds and stained with blood. Abril had been so blinded by hatred that

it wasn’t until that moment she realized her hands were covered in blood, just like the golden daggers lying on the ground. Part of Cira’s face was raw flesh from the burns Abril had inflicted on her. Cira began

to approach; Abril stepped back in fear, but not of Ciraof herself and what she was capable of doing.

STAY AWAY! GET AWAY FROM ME!she screamed.

Cira ignored her warning and continued advancing. Abril’s back hit the cave wall; she had nowhere else to

  1. go.

Abril began to hyperventilate. The hatred and anger were still there, but she was aware of what would happen if she didn’t stop. She would be consumed by hatred and never leave that cave. But she didn’t

know how to defeat her sister since hatred couldn’t be overcome with attacksit only generated more

hatred.

Cira was so close that Abril could feel her breath. Abril fought the urge to lunge at Cira again. She covered her own body with crimson flames, and when Cira was about to touch her, she burned her hand. Abril

didn’t want to continue hurting her, but she couldn’t stop either.

STAY AWAY! Please, leave me alone. I don’t want to keep hurting you.”

Well, for someone who doesn’t want to hurt me, you’ve inflicted a lot of pain and it seems you don’t plan

to stop. I suppose you want revenge, to make me pay forever for killing your daughter.

Abril looked again at her daughter’s small, lifeless body just a few steps away. Cira was right; Abril wanted to keep hurting her forever. A voice in her head screamed that it wasn’t enough, that all the harm she had done was just the beginning, that she would avenge her daughter’s death forever.

But that wasn’t what she truly wanted deep down. Abril took a deep breath and tried to calm herself, tried

to quell all the hatred inside her. The crimson flames turned silverflames that didn’t burn but purified, flames she should have used from the beginning to free her sister from the darkness within her.

Don’t tell me you’re tired already. Come on, keep hurting me. It’s still not enough.”

Abril lunged at Cira again, but this time it wasn’t to hurt herit was to embrace her. There was only one thing that could combat hatred, and that was love. Since Cira had appeared, even from the first time they

had faced each other, Abril had wanted to defeat and destroy her. There wasn’t a single moment when she had thought of freeing her, but in that moment, she did. She wished with all her heart that her sister would

be free from the darkness controlling her, and by doing so, she overcame the hatred.

Cira had disappeared. There was no trace of her, just as there was no trace of her little daughter’s body.

Abril sat on the ground for a while, leaning against the stone wall behind her. She thought about everything she had done up to that moment, how she had treated her sister in the past. When they were children, Cira had been mean to Abril, and perhaps she hated her, but Abril had also hated her. Deep down, she had only

I won’t continue with this,Abril said to herself as she stood up. She didn’t plan to follow that game of hatred that would turn her into a monster. She had always been told she was very good, but the reality was that she had chosen to ignore what hurt her. And in that moment, she chose to stop hating her sister and, instead of destroying her, save her from the darkness.

Abril continued walking. Suddenly, without realizing it, she saw Lissana, not as a baby but as a six or sevenyearold girl running ahead of her, telling her to follow. Abril ran after her and found herself in the palace garden. Lissana and Alessandro were in front of her, under the shade of a large tree. They had prepared a picnic and encouraged her to join them. Abril had been through an ordeal and felt exhausted. Without thinking twice, she walked toward them and joined the picnic. Sitting under the shade of that great tree, Abril felt at peace, as if all her pain and suffering had finally come to an end.

Abril didn’t know if it was real or not, but for a moment, just for a moment, she wanted to believe it was, that this was her life and not an illusion. Alessandro approached her, sat beside her, and said, You’ve

done enough, Aby. Now, rest.

Resting her head on his shoulder and intertwining her left hand with the one that bore their marriage mark,

Abril asked, Is this real?

Of course it is. I’m right here with you, can’t you see?

I see, but I don’t know what’s real and what’s a lie anymore.

Alessandro didn’t respond, and that was because deep down, Abril didn’t want him to. Lissana ran toward them, threw herself into their arms, and said, Mommy, I’ve learned a new song. Do you want me to sing it

for you?

Yes.

Lissana began to sing:

At dawn, the sun will rise,

with its light, everything will shine,

and the darkness will be gone,

the evening breeze,

will take away fear and sadness,

at nightfall, the moon and stars will shine,

and they will bring you rest.

Lissana’s voice was beautiful, sweet, and melodious. That song made Abril feel nostalgic; she had heard it

before but couldn’t remember where.

Lissana repeated those verses several times, then kissed her on the cheek and said, I love you, Mommy.

Alessandro put his arm around her shoulders and said, Now this is our reality. Here, there’s nothing and

no one to threaten us. We can be happy forever.

As night began to fall, Kiara started to worry about Abril, as she still hadn’t come out of the cave. She wondered if she was alright. Kiara began pacing around the cave entrance, and finally, unable to bear the anxiety any longer, she spoke to the guards. She’s taking too long. Why don’t you go get her?

We’re forbidden to enter the cave, one of the guards replied. We only guard it. If someone goes in, they

must come out on their own.

What?!

Sorry, but we can’t do anything for your friend. If she decided to enter, she must also decide to leave. Only those who wish to leave the cave can do so. I remember you entered once, but you came out, though it

took you two days. So be patient and wait for her to come out.

Kiara stared at the cave, wondering if she should go in to look for Abril. But the truth was, she didn’t want to enter; she was afraid of what the cave might show her. So, she steeled herself with patience and

decided to wait.

The next day, Cassian came to the cave and asked, Where’s Aby? Maya is very worried since she hasn’t

returned yet.

She’s still in the cave.

She’s still in there?

Yes, we have to wait for her to come out. Her desire to live in the real world must be stronger than

anything she sees in there.

She’s been in there too long. Do you think she’s okay?

She’s strong, so I believe she’ll come out soon.

Abril was living a happy dream, the most beautiful of all, spending time with her family and enjoying days filled with peace and tranquility. That day, like many others, Lissana sang to her. The song was familiar, though she still couldn’t remember where she had heard it. In reality, she felt there were many things she

was forgetting.

What am I forgetting?” she asked herself. Just then, Alessandro said to her, You’re not forgetting

anything.

But I can’t stop thinking that I’m forgetting something very important, but I can’t remember what it is.

It’s nothing, so stop thinking about it. Everything is fine here; everything is fine.

Abril began to hear those words so often that she started to wonder why everything was supposedly fine. Everything was perfect, like a dream.

A dream? Is this not real?

Abril tried to think with all her might about what she was forgetting and why she felt this wasn’t her place. She was with her family, her husband, and her daughter, but she didn’t feel complete.

Suddenly, Abril remembered why she felt that way. It was because nothing there was real; it was all an illusion. Her family wasn’t there.

Abril began to look around frantically. Alessandro took her hand. Abril didn’t feel any warmth; his touch was dry and cold.

What’s wrong, Aby?

Let go of me. You’re not real, nothing here is real. I have to go.

That hand continued to hold her and asked, Why do you want to leave? Here you’re happy, you have everything you’ve always wanteda family.

That’s why I have to go, because my family is waiting for me.”

Lissana approached her, hugged her leg, and said, Mommy, don’t go. Don’t leave me. I’ll sing for you.”

At dawn, the sun will rise,

with its light, it will illuminate everything,

and the darkness will go away,

the breeze of the evening,

will take away fear and sadness,

at nightfall, the moon and stars will shine,

and give you rest.
