Part II: Battle Companions

While the fairies prepared a bath for Abril, Kiara used her magic to heal the cut on her cheek and the
scratches on her arms. After taking a good bath, she lay down on the bed and only then realized how tired
she was. As soon as her head touched the pillow, Abril fell asleep almost instantly. She slept through the
entire day and night, and even in the morning, she wanted to keep sleeping, but her slumber was
interrupted by a fairy.
“Human queen, please wake up.”
Abril half–opened her eyes and asked, “What is it?”
“You must get up; the queen has sent the person who will teach you how to use the daggers you obtained
in the Cave of Dreams.”
When Abril heard this, she fully woke up and asked, “Are they here already?”
“Yes, so please hurry. He is not a very patient person.”
Abril still felt her body stiff, but she forced herself to get out of bed and stand up. “How long have I slept?”
“You slept all day yesterday. It’s morning now, and I have brought you breakfast.”
“Thank you.”
As she changed, Abril asked, “Where is my daughter and the others?”
“The baby is being cared for by Miss Maya, the human prince is with them, and Princess Kiara has not yet
woken up.”
“Thank you for telling me.”
After dressing and eating something quickly, the fairy guided Abril to where the person who would teach
her to use the daggers was waiting. She led her to a spacious room with large windows, which was
completely empty.
“Please wait here; your teacher is about to arrive.”
Shortly after the fairy left, an elderly fairy appeared. He had brown skin, green eyes, and hair made of ́leaves, which looked a bit dry, as if they were wilting. He walked hunched over towards her, stared at her
for a minute, and then circled around her.
“So, you are the new bearer of those daggers. You look weaker than I thought; I don’t understand how they
chose you as their new bearer.”
“To be honest, I don’t know either.”
The elderly fairy stepped back a bit and said, “Handling those daggers is easy, or maybe not. It all depends
on your concentration, so try not to waste my time.”
“The fairy queen said these daggers adapt to the power of the bearer. How do I do that?”

“I heard you use fire magic. Draw the daggers and imagine them igniting in flames.”
Abril did as he said, but nothing happened.
“You must visualize your flames on the blades of the daggers.”

Abril spent the entire morning trying to ignite the daggers in flames. Seeing that she hadn’t achieved anything, she asked, “Are you sure they can ignite? I usually cover things with my flames and decide when
to burn them, but with these daggers, I can’t do it.”
“That’s because you think of them as objects, and they are not. You must think of these daggers as your
companions because your life will depend on them and how you use them.”
Abril tried once more, but this time she asked the daggers to ignite, and suddenly, the blades burst into
flames.
“I did it!”
“Now extinguish them.”
Abril extinguished the flames and asked, “Is that all they can do?”
“Do not underestimate those daggers. You might think it’s useless to use them when you can use your
flames directly.”
In reality, that was exactly what Abril had thought, but she didn’t want to respond since the elderly fairy
seemed annoyed.
“The daggers can serve as a conduit. In other words, you can launch stronger attacks without using too
much magic. No matter how much magic you have, having a human body means you will naturally get
tired.”
Abril always ended up completely exhausted after each battle. Although her control over her magic had
improved significantly, she still couldn’t fully control how to release only a certain amount of magic. She
couldn’t measure herself and just let her magic flow like a torrent.
“Moreover, these daggers can also take any form you desire. Right now, they are two daggers, but what do
you want them to be? They can be a sword, a bow, or a lance. What do you need them to become?”
-Abril was not accustomed to using any weapon, but she considered daggers the easiest to handle.
“I like them as two daggers. They are light and easy to handle. I don’t want to change them.”
“That must be why they haven’t changed then, as these magical weapons usually adapt to what their new
owner needs after being wielded.”
“I like them. I don’t want to change them.”
“But you can still change their form to store them, so you can have them with you at all times.”
Abril considered it very practical to have them with her all the time since she never knew when she might

be attacked again. She thought of something light and comfortable to carry. She closed her eyes and
imagined the daggers turning into two bracelets. When she opened her eyes again, the daggers had become two golden bracelets. Abril placed one on each of her wrists; they fit her perfectly.
The elderly fairy said. Now imagine them turning back into two daggers.”
Abril did so, and the two bracelets turned back into daggers, but they made a small cut on her palm when
she tried to catch them in the air
“You must be careful and practice diligently so that when you have to fight, you won’t drop them or hurt yourself
7 keep that in mind.”
“Well, that’s all I had to teach you. The rest will depend on you.”
Before the elderly fairy left, Abril asked, “May I know your name?”
“Omael. That’s my name.”
“My name is Abril Sorry for the late introduction.”
I already knew who you are, so it doesn’t matter.”
“Thank you very much for your help.
“You’re welcome”
In the following days, Abril practiced with her daggers, learning how to use them correctly. However, she
spent most of the time with Lissana, as she couldn’t stay in that place. She had to return to Cosset, especially because she had a bad feeling, as if something wasn’t right.
Abril was on her way to see the fairy queen when she overheard one of the fairies saying, “Your Majesty, the human kingdom is being attacked by monsters of darkness. Don’t make me go back there.”
Abril burst in and asked, “What did you say?! Is my kingdom being attacked by monsters?!”
