When Alessandro woke up, Abril was lying beside him, as she should be. Every time they were apart, it was torture for him; he felt alone and empty, the world lost its color, and everything turned dark. Abril and Lissana were what he loved most, what brought color and happiness to his life; without them, the world made no sense. Alessandro hugged Abril and kissed her forehead. In moments like this, Alessandro

realized how much he loved her and how much he needed her.

“I love you,” he whispered in her ear, careful not to wake her, because those words were not meant for her

to hear but for him, because he needed to express in words what his heart was screaming.

That day they would resume their journey. Alessandro got up, even though he hated the idea of leaving Abril’s side, and went to speak with Sirius. Upon arriving at his tent, he asked, “Any changes?”

“No, Your Majesty, everything has been very quiet.”

“Check the barrier once more.”

“I will, Your Majesty.”

When Abril opened her eyes, she felt a bit more at ease thanks to her mother’s words. It was early, but Alessandro was already gone. Abril got up, washed her face, and upon opening the tent, saw Alessandro giving orders to the guards. The tents were already being dismantled, and the guards were preparing to leave. When Alessandro saw Abril, he approached her and asked, “How are you?”

“I’m fine.”

“We’ll be leaving soon; you should eat something. You didn’t eat anything yesterday.”

“I’m sorry, I was very tired and ended up falling asleep.”

“I still have some things to do. Go and eat because there’s something I need you to do.”

“What is it?”

“I’ll tell you after you have breakfast.”

Abril went to have breakfast and returned quickly. “I’ve had breakfast. What do you want me to do?”

“Come with me.”

Alessandro led Abril to the well and said, “We believe the monsters came from here.”

Abril approached the well and peered inside. It was deep and dark; she couldn’t see anything, although she felt a strange presence emanating from that place, which gave her chills.

“There’s something strange about this well; you should step back, Lessan.”

Alessandro stepped back, and at that moment, Abril launched several silver fireballs into the well. Shortly after, the ground began to tremble, and monsters started to emerge from the well. They must have been very deep, which is why Abril hadn’t sensed their presence. When those monsters lunged at her,

Alessandro used his wind magic to create a wall between Abril and the monsters, preventing them from

reaching her. Sirius created a barrier to imprison them while the knights arrived. Abril already had her

daggers in her hands when Alessandro approached and asked, “Are you okay?”

“Yes.”

“That was very dangerous; don’t do it again.”

Abril ignored Alessandro and went where the monsters were, starting to attack.

“Aby!”

Abril cut through everything in her path with her daggers, reducing the monsters to black dust with her fire. Meanwhile, Alessandro took care of protecting her back, cutting the monsters with his wind, which didn’t

kill them but kept them at bay until Abril killed them with her fire. When there were no monsters left,

Alessandro, very angry, said to Abril, “Aby, why didn’t you listen to me? You can’t rush at the monsters like

that.”

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking.”

Alessandro hugged her and said, “If I lose you, I couldn’t bear it. Don’t do anything reckless, Aby.”

“I’m sorry, when I saw those monsters, I wanted to destroy them for all the damage they caused, to

avenge all those who died because of them.”

“Don’t be reckless; always think of me and Lissana before doing anything.”

“I will.”

Alessandro and Abril stayed embraced for a while until Alessandro’s troubled heart calmed down. Then

Abril purified the well, and the water began to flow again.

The journey resumed shortly after, and they arrived at the next village by midday, which was in a similar state to the previous one. A black mist covered the entire village, and there were monsters everywhere.

After dealing with all the monsters and purifying the village, they searched for survivors. There were few,

but some had managed to stay alive. That night, they camped in that village.

When night fell, Alessandro approached Abril, who was still tending to the knights‘ wounds, and said, “You

should rest.”

“It’s not necessary; I’m not tired. I can still continue.”

Alessandro picked Abril up in his arms. “What are you doing? Put me down!”

“No, you need to rest, or you’ll end up collapsing.”

Alessandro carried Abril to the tent, gently laid her among the blankets, and said, “You need to know when

to stop.”

“But there are still injured knights.”

Alessandro picked Abril up again, laid her back among the blankets, and started to remove her clothes.

“Helping you.”

“I’ve seen you naked countless times; does it bother you?”

“It doesn’t bother me, it’s just that…”

Alessandro continued to remove her clothes. When he saw her bare skin, his blood began to heat up. He

ran the damp towel over her body, and Abril felt her body heat up as well, her breathing becoming irregular.

Alessandro removed her boots and pants and continued to run the damp towel over her legs. She said nothing, nor did she push him away; she just watched him with feverish eyes. He kissed her inner thigh, eliciting a small moan from Abril when she felt his warm, moist lips on her skin.

“Stop, someone might come.”

“No one will come.”

Alessandro brushed his lips against hers and asked, “Or do you not want to?”

Abril wrapped her arms around his neck and covered his lips with hers. Their kiss was long and deep, with ragged breath and flushed cheeks, she said, “I do want to.”

Alessandro had been controlling himself, but that broke all his self–control. He let go, defeated. His entire body tensed, his heart raced, his veins pounded with blood and energy. He held her tightly, small and delicate in his arms, and with a barely audible voice, he said, “I love you, Aby, I love you.”

She couldn’t articulate words, but in her mind and heart, she repeated it over and over again. I love you, I love you.

Abril was resting on Alessandro’s chest. In that position, she could hear the beating of his heart, and that

sound made her feel as if everything was alright, as if nothing she had experienced was real.

“This has been reckless. Someone could have heard us,” she said.

Alessandro traced circles on Abril’s back with his fingers, caressing her skin as he responded, “Our tent is

further away. No one heard anything.”

“Being like this with you, I feel like I’m in a dream. Is it?”

“No, this is not a dream.”

“I want all of this to be over already.”

“Me too.”

Abril felt her eyes grow heavy and eventually fell asleep, even though she wanted to keep talking, to keep

listening to the rhythmic beating of her beloved’s heart. But fatigue overcame her.

The next morning, when she opened her eyes, she was still in Alessandro’s arms and felt happy that it was

1. so. She lay there, looking at her husband’s face until he woke up.

“Have you been awake long?” he asked.

“No, I just woke up.”

“We should get up.”

“Yes.”

Abril got up and took a clean set of clothes from one of the chests there. Alessandro did the same, and

after putting on his armor, he said, “Don’t do anything reckless today.”

“I won’t.”

As they left the tent, they went to have a quick breakfast. Afterwards, Abril purified the well. Some

monsters that had remained inside the well emerged, but this time Alessandro was ready and eliminated

them before they could attack Abril.

Before leaving, Abril approached the survivors and apologized for not having arrived sooner to help them.

But they did not blame them; on the contrary, they were very grateful for having been saved and for having eliminated all the monsters.

They set off, with Abril riding on the same horse as Alessandro. He said to her, “The next village is near.

Don’t overdo it.”

“I know, let’s hope they are alright.”

“Yes, let’s hope they have had better luck.”

Before reaching the village, Abril sensed the presence of approaching monsters.

Just as Abril had said, a horde of monsters completely surrounded them. There were so many that Sirius

had to raise a barrier around them, leaving only a part open to finish them off.

When no monsters were left, they searched for a well, since the number of monsters that had attacked

them must have come from somewhere. There was a well not far from the path, covered by a dark míst.

After purifying the land and the well, they continued on. The village seemed to be fine; it appeared the

monsters had not reached it.

In that village, there was no well because a river ran through it, and they obtained their water from there. It

was then that they confirmed that the monsters came from the wells and stayed near them, as if

protecting something.

There was something Abril needed to verify. She approached Barto and said, “Barto, could we talk for a

moment?”

“Of course, Your Majesty.”

Barto stood up from where he was sitting and followed Abril to her tent. Once alone, he asked, “Do you

think you can send a message to the kingdom of Laios? There’s something I need to check.”

“Due to the presence of monsters in Laios, no messenger will agree to go, but if it’s urgent, I could do it.”
