Part II: A Strong Friendship

Fay went to visit Maya the next day and took Tarik with him. She was taking a walk in the garden, so he went to find her. When she saw him approaching, she was overjoyed and said, What a delight to see you! To be honest, I didn’t expect to see you so soon.

You always think the worst of people.”

That’s not true.

Lissana seemed very happy to see Tarik; she smiled, squealed, and stretched out her arms in excitement.

Maya remarked, I think Lissana really likes Tarik.”

Fay tried to put Tarik down, but he clung to her neck with great determination. Tarik is shy around

strangers.

He’s a beautiful child. I’m glad you’re happy.

And from what I see, you’ve found your own happiness too.

Cassian hugged Maya and said, Indeed, you can’t imagine how happy we are. So much so that we’re even

having a child.

Fay ignored Cassian’s comment and asked Maya, Are you pregnant?

Yes.

You’ve always wanted to be in the human realm. Are you planning to leave soon?

No, I’ll give birth to my child here.

You know what that means, right?

The circumstances of my child are a bit different, so don’t worry. He’ll be fine.”

I hope so. But why do you want to give birth here? Is it because of what’s happening in the human realm?

Do you know something about that?

I had to go for an inspection by the fairy queen. She’s somewhat worried about the monsters, fearing that

our kingdom might be struck by darkness again.

Did you discover anything?

The northern part of the Cosset kingdom is being attacked by monsters.”

Do you know what’s causing the attacks?

No, that’s all I could find out. The monsters aren’t near our kingdom, so you don’t have to worry about that right now. And don’t worry about the human realm either; I heard that the human queen is already taking

care of it.

Let’s hope everything goes well and that this ends soon.

Let’s hope so.

If you’re not in a hurry, let’s sit down.

Sounds good to me.

Since there was no place to sit, Maya sat on the soft grass and placed Lissana on the ground. Fay did the

same. In the land of the fairies, it was normal to sit on the ground to rest, as they were creatures who

loved nature. But this was something Cassian still didn’t find a good idea, especially since Maya was

pregnant.

You shouldn’t sit on the ground, Maya.

Stop complaining, prince. For fairies, this is better than sitting on a hard and uncomfortable chair.

Fay is right, Cassian. Stop complaining and sit down.

We should have at least put down a blanket.

Maya pulled Cassian’s hand and said, Stop complaining and sit down.”

Cassian sat beside her. Lissana started crawling and approached Fay. She seemed to want to be near

Tarik, but he hid in his father’s arms.

Tarik, you should be friends with the princess. Stop hiding.”

Tarik stopped hiding his face and looked at the little baby who was smiling at him. That smile made him

feel calmer, and he climbed down from his father’s arms. Tarik was a few months older than Lissana and

had already started walking. With clumsy steps, he approached the princess, sat in front of her, and stared

at her intently.

I think they’ll get along well,” Maya said as she watched them.

It’s good for them to be friends,Fay replied. It was good for Tarik to have powerful friends who would support him when he became king.

Yesterday you brought Tarik before the queen. Can I know what that was about?Maya asked, as she had

been wondering about it since the previous day. It was normal for Fay to be summoned, but not his son.

Fay took a moment to respond, caressing Tarik’s head. The queen wants Tarik to become her successor.

What?

Tarik is the new prince of the fairy kingdom.”

And do you want that?

I tried to take his place, but she refused. However, she said she would let him choose whether he wanted

to be king or not.”

And you don’t plan to do anything else?

+25 Points:

I can’t oppose the queen’s wishes. I can only wait for Tarik to make his decision, whether he wants to be

king or not.

I suppose you have no other choice. Besides, we don’t know if he wants to take on the kingdom.

Maya laughed and said, It’s funny how many people desire to become king and fight for the throne, while

we reject it.”

Being a king in the human world is easy, but being a king in the fairy land is not. Here, the entire kingdom

depends on its king.

I hate being tied to one place. That’s why I didn’t want to become queen. But why did you reject it? I heard the queen thought of you before I came.

I love this kingdom, but I don’t want to bear such a heavy burden on my shoulders. That’s why I didn’t want Tarik to become her successor. But even though I’m his father, I can’t decide his future. That’s something

each person decides at some point in their life.

That’s true.

For Cassian, this was something entirely different. He had been born a prince and had to follow otherswishes all his life. Only after becoming lame did they let him do as he pleased, because no one expected

anything from him anymore.

I suppose it’s good to think that way, for fairies to live with such freedom.

From that day on, Fay began to regularly take Tarik to the palace. Although Tarik had initially been shy, he started getting along better with Lissana, and as they grew, their friendship seemed to become even

stronger.

Months passed quickly in the fairy land, and Maya’s baby was born. He was a beautiful boy with brown hair and red eyes. Cassian was so happy that sometimes he felt guilty, as his brother and Abril couldn’t be with their daughter, couldn’t be together as a family, no matter how much they wanted to.

Lissana grew rapidly, but so did her power. Although she was only a year and a half old, her power surpassed anyone’s.

Maya was feeding her baby while Cassian was putting Lissana to sleep. Seeing him so pensive, she asked, What’s wrong?

I was just thinking about my brother and Lessan, about how hard it must be for them not to be with their

daughter.
