A Great Love Story
Cassian tenderly caressed her back and asked, “Do you know where the keys to Hades are?”
Maya was silent for a moment, then replied, “I told you it was just a story that mentioned where one of the
keys to Hades was. I don’t know if it’s true or not.”
“Will you tell me the story?”
Maya got out of bed, unselfconsciously showing her nudity. She went to a table where she had her travel bag, took out an old leather–bound book, returned to the bed, and told him, “My father gave me the book from which I got the story.”
“And what does
ur father say? Is the story true or just a tale?”
“My father always says that all stories hold some truth.”
Maya opened the book and leafed through its pages. Cassian could see her bare breasts, which stirred impure thoughts in him, so he covered her with the sheet. She asked, puzzled, “What are you doing?”
“If you don’t cover up, I won’t be able to concentrate on what you’re saying.”
Maya smiled mischievously and asked, “Am I distracting you?”
“Of course, I’m only human; my eyes wander unintentionally.”
“So you don’t want to see me?”
“I didn’t say that!”
Maya laughed at seeing him so nervous and said, “I was just teasing you, now I’ll cover up.”
After covering herself, Maya continued searching through the pages of that book, doing so very carefully to avoid tearing them as the pages seemed very worn. Cassian glanced at the book; it was in a strange language, appearing as mere scribbles.
“What language is this book written in?”
Maya avoided the question, and upon finding the story, she began to read it:
‘Once upon a time, there was a king who loved his wife deeply. She was everything to him, but one day she fell ill, and her life slowly ebbed away. Seeing how her life was fading day by day, he did everything he could to save her. He searched for the best wizards and sorcerers, but none could heal his beloved’s illness.”
“Is it a love story?”
Asked Cassian, as the story seemed similar to the ones Abril read in her spare time,
“Just be quiet and listen until the end.”
“I’m sorry for interrupting, continue.”

“When she died, he fell into the deepest despair. He couldn’t live in a world where his beloved didn’t exist, so he sought a way to revive her. After much searching, he found a book that told how to bring the dead back to life. To achieve it, he would need one of the keys to Hades. He dedicated several years to searching for it until he finally succeeded. He found one of the keys and then went to the gates of Hades. There, he used one of the keys and entered Hades. He searched for his beloved’s soul, and when he finally found it, he realized he couldn’t bring her back to the world of the living. She no longer had a body to return to; her body had been consumed a long time ago. If he couldn’t bring her back, he preferred to stay in Hades with her, but that wasn’t possible either. A human couldn’t stay in the world of the dead; he was expelled and returned to the world of the living. With a broken heart, he wandered aimlessly back in the world of the living until he reached the fairy kingdom.”
“Do fairies exist?”
“Can I finish?”
“I’m sorry, continue.”
“There he found a fairy who resembled his deceased wife. He wanted to take her with him, but the fairies were strictly forbidden from leaving their realm. However, he didn’t want to leave without her, so he made a deal with the king of the fairies: he would give him the key to Hades which he possessed if he allowed him to take her with him. The king of the fairies accepted the deal, and he handed over the key and left the
land of the fairies with her.”
Maya closed the book and said to him.
‘And that’s how the story ended.”
‘Is the key in the realm of the fairies?”
‘According to the story, yes.”
“So fairies exist?”
“I think so, although I’ve never seen one.”
“And how do we get to the realm of the fairies?”
“I was thinking of asking the elves.
They come from an ancient lineage; if anyone knows where to find them, it would be them.”
“You’re right, we’ll ask them tomorrow.”
Maya put the book aside, snuggled against Cassiaris chest, and said to him.
“I hope we can find the key”
“I’m sure we will.”

Alessandro had gone to his office after dinner since he had quite a bit of work to catch up on. Someone knocked on his office door; it was Gabriel asking if he could come in.
“Come in.”
“Your Majesty, there’s something I’d like to inform you about.”
“What’s going on?”
Alessandro asked without lifting his gaze from the papers in front of him.
“It’s about your wife.”
Immediately, Alessandro looked up.
“What’s going on with my wife?”
“She asked me not to say anything, but I believe you need to know.”
“Speak, Gabriel, get to the point. What’s going on with Abril?”
“She hasn’t been feeling well for several days; she’s been experiencing dizziness, nausea, and headaches.”
Alessandro stood up, visibly agitated.
“Is she sick? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“She insisted it was nothing, but it’s been a week, and the symptoms haven’t subsided.”
“Call a doctor immediately, have them come to my quarters.”
Alessandro headed to the door, just before crossing the threshold, Gabriel said.
“Your Majesty, I’m not entirely sure, but my wife experienced similar symptoms recently.”
“What illness did your wife have?”
“My wife wasn’t sick; she was pregnant. Perhaps the queen is too.”
Alessandro was stunned. Abril’s mother had told her it was best not to have children for the time being, and he also believed it was best since a war would soon break out. He leaned against the door frame, feeling a wave of dizziness.
“Pregnant?”
“I think it’s most likely.”
Alessandro said to him.
“Tell the doctor to come early tomorrow.”
“As you command, Your Majesty.”
Alessandro went straight to his room, leaving his work behind without a second thought. Abril was already lying in bed, sleeping deeply. He approached her and caressed her cheek.

Abril felt her eyelids heavy; since opening the second seal, she had been feeling constantly tired and dizzy.
She forced herself to open her eyes and asked.
“What’s wrong, Lessan?”
“Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t feeling well?”
Abril cleared her mind, sat up in the bed, and seeing Alessandro so worried, she caressed his cheek and
replied.
“I didn’t want to make you worry.”
“Gabriel told me you’ve been feeling dizzy and nauseous. Is that true?”
