Cassian shook his head.
“Maya isn’t well, so I decided to travel by carriage to prevent her from getting worse. But in the end, I only made her worse. She fainted when we were about to arrive. Abril has already seen her, but…”
Cassian ran his fingers through his hair, something he always did when he was frustrated. Alessandro said to him, “Sit down, you look like you’re about to faint at any moment.”
Alessandro served him a cup of tea and asked, “What’s wrong, brother?”
“I don’t know what’s wrong with Maya. She’s not okay, but she keeps trying to hide it from me. I’ve asked her several times to come see Abril, but she refused, saying it wasn’t necessary. I think Abril’s magic hasn’t done much for her.”
“It must be your imagination. Abril’s magic is capable of reviving someone on the verge of death–you’ve seen it yourself.”
“Yes, and that’s what terrifies me, that what Maya has is something even Abril can’t cure. I don’t want to lose her, Lessan.”
Alessandro put his hand on his brother’s shoulder to show his support and said to him,
“That’s not going to happen. You’re not going to lose her. Abril will be able to cure her, just be patient. She’ll surely be fine tomorrow.”
“And if she’s not? What will I do?”
“Stop thinking negatively. Think that she’ll be okay.”
“I hope so, because I can’t imagine a life without her anymore.”

Part II: I Am Sorry
Alessandro had thought about asking his brother to accompany Abril to the kingdom of Laios, but seeing the state of anxiety he was in, he doubted that he would leave Maya for a few days, unless she was completely fine.
When Cassian calmed down, he asked, “Why did you send for me?”
Alessandro hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to tell him why he had sent for him.
“What’s wrong, Lessan? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Abril is going to the kingdom of Laios to close the rift of Hades. I had you come because I wanted you to
accompany her…”
“I’m sorry, Lessan, I would like to accompany her, but I don’t want to leave Maya alone.”
“Don’t worry, I understand perfectly. If I were in your place, I would have refused too.”
“But I can stay and take care of the palace and do your work, so you can accompany her.”
“I don’t know if Abril will accept me accompanying her.”
“Why not?”
“She doesn’t want both of us to leave Lissana alone, and to be honest, I wouldn’t feel comfortable knowing
that she won’t see either of her parents.”
“I’m sorry, Lessan. I really wish I could help you, but if I accompany her right now, I would be distracted. I
would only be a hindrance.”
“Don’t worry, Sirius will also go with her. I would have liked it to be you, to feel more at ease, but if it’s not
possible, so be it.”
“Even if I don’t go, I will take care of finding the best knights to accompany her.”
“No, Abril wants her journey to be secret. With a large group, that would be impossible.”
“You’re right. Then why don’t you tell Taren to accompany her?”
“Yes, I will tell him.”
Cassian stood up and said, “I’ll go check on Maya.”
“Try to rest. If Maya sees you in that state, she will only worry about you.”
Before crossing the door, Cassian stopped and said to him,
“Lessan, maybe I’ll stay in the palace for a while.”
“You can stay as long as you want; this is also your home.”
“Thank you.”
< Part 1 Am Soup
Cassian was heading to his room when he ran into Abril in one of the palace corridors.
“Hello, Cassian.”
“Aby, were you with Maya?”
“Yes.”
“How is she?”
“Better. She just needs rest, but you don’t look good at all.”
