The moment his lips touched hers, Alicia’s mind went blank.

It wasn’t as if she had never kissed before, but kissing her ex–boyfriend’s uncle right under her ex’s father’s nose was something else.
She was about to explode.
While she was still dazed, Austin pried her lips open, their breaths tangling in a heady mix.
Having waited without an answer, Miguel repeated, “So, which lady has managed to stir that cold heart of yours?”
Alicia pressed her fingers against Austin’s chest, giving a slight push.
If this went on, they would definitely be caught.
However, he didn’t budge. The more flustered she became, the more amused he looked.
Anxious, she nearly bit him, but he was ready. He pinched her chin firmly between his fingers, denying her the chance.
Out of options, she switched tactics.
She rubbed her cheek lightly against his chest like a spoiled kitten, hooked her arms around his neck, and looked up with wide, pleading eyes.
As expected, he couldn’t resist softness.
He let her go.
Weak from lack of oxygen, she leaned against his shoulder, breathless and silent.
The dim light outside the car window cast mottled shadows across her flushed face.
Her lips, reddened and glistening from his kiss, looked like they were shimmering with water; her cheeks burned crimson.
Her slightly parted lips made her look like a fish gasping for air–irresistibly alluring.
Even Austin’s usually steady voice carried a faint rasp as he chuckled. “No one in particular. I always have meetings with ladies anyway. Since I’ll be staying in the country for a while, meeting two a day isn’t difficult. With so many charming women, I’m bound to take a liking to one.”
“Now that’s rare. Before, you couldn’t stand staying home even for a day.” Miguel laughed.
Austin’s deep voice rumbled by Alicia’s ear. “Unlike you, I don’t have a wife and warm bed to go home to. I’m alone in bed even on Christmas Eve.”
“Then take this chance and settle down early. I heard Ms. Wallace is gentle and virtuous. Why not meet her
tomorrow?”

Alicia’s heart sank.
He’s really going on a blind date? What about my grand plan?
She regretted it so much that she wanted to run back to the airport and slap herself for speaking recklessly earlier.
While the two men were talking, the car rolled to a stop.
Only then did she realize they had arrived at Burton Residence.
Before the car had even stilled, she quickly scrambled out of Austin’s arms and curled back down by the footrest.
As Miguel was about to get off, Austin suddenly said, “My friends are throwing me a welcome dinner tonight. Tell Grandpa for me, will you?”
“Alright.” Miguel closed the door and left.
Austin drummed his fingers on the armrest. “Why not hide in my bed? That’s safe.”
Carefully poking her head out to confirm that Miguel was gone, Alicia finally exhaled in relief and moved to climb past his long legs to the other seat.
“Mr. Burton, please send me back-”
Before she could finish, Austin seized her wrist and pulled her into his lap.
She ended up straddling him, their pose indecently intimate.
He steadied her waist, his gaze fixed on her flushed little face.
“What’s wrong? Didn’t my nephew ever get this close to you? Why so quick to blush?”
Austin had already taken her first night.
What he hadn’t expected was that even after living with David for three years, Alicia was still a virgin.
Truthfully, she hadn’t been very intimate with David.
For one, she worked like a machine and had little time for romance. For another, David, wanting to keep up his “innocent gentleman” act, realized she was conservative and never pushed far.
Their most intimate moments were just a few kisses.
Now, exposed and teased, Alicia bristled and blurted out, “How could that be? We’re two adults living. together. Sparks fly, things happen.”
She arched her brow. “Honestly, your nephew kisses way better than you, probably more experienced too.”
She expected him to be furious, but instead, his smile deepened.

“Thank you for pointing that out. I’ll be sure to find someone to practice with. I hear Ms. Wallace is gentle and considerate. She’d surely be happy to help me improve.”
At the mention of Magnolia, Alicia froze.
She had been so focused on winning the argument that she had completely forgotten her real goal.
She looked like she had won, but in truth, she had lost miserably.
“Mr. Burton, you really plan to go on a blind date?”
“As my brother said, I’m at the age to settle down and build a career.”
No wonder he had suggested marriage to her earlier–partly because of what happened between them, partly because he already knew her background and thought them well–matched.
She regretted not letting him finish introducing himself back then.
However, regret was useless now.
She bit her lip and asked, “If you want a marriage alliance, what do you think of me?”
Austin’s eyes swept over her before he replied evenly, “Ms. Gibson, you’re beautiful, young, and well–born. You’re a fine candidate for marriage.”
Alicia’s heart lifted until he added, “But, I recall you once said you’d rather jump off a plane than marry me. What a pity. I had considered you.”
