From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 125

Without a word, she smoothly unzipped her purse and pulled out her phone.

Just as he assumed she was going to call Charles to complain or pull some dramatic stunt.

She unlocked the screen, typed a few quick words, and shoved the screen in his face.

The phone screen glowed faintly in the dim cabin.

On her social media account, she had just published a new post, specifically tagging The Foster Group's PR team.

[It was an accident. I was mistaken.]

One short, concise sentence.

Once Lydia was certain he'd seen it, she put her phone away.

She slumped back against the leather seat, completely drained.

Frederick stared at her pale, exhausted face. He had gotten exactly what he wanted, yet for a fleeting second, he felt like he had just lost something important.

Was she really done fighting?

A compliant, obedient wife was exactly what he needed, right?

His ringtone shattered the silence, pulling him out of his thoughts.

Lydia knew it was Sierra calling. A sound that used to shred her nerves now meant absolutely nothing to her.

Frederick answered the phone. "A hairline fracture? I'll send a doctor over..."

Lydia's deadpan voice cut in. "Pull over."

Caleb Grant pulled the car over to the curb.

Lydia stepped out and looked back at him. "You're busy. I'll take a cab to the hospital myself."

Before he could even respond, she flagged down a passing cab.

She hopped in and sped off.

Frederick watched the taillights fade into the distance, his eyes unreadable. Into the phone, he told Sierra, "I'm on my way."

Caleb put the car back in gear.

In the back of the cab, Lydia was still clutching the car key.

She needed to know the truth.

She urged the driver, "Please, hurry to the hospital!"

Twenty minutes later, she rushed into the VIP inpatient wing.

"Ms. Sterling, what are you doing here?" Wesley West intercepted her.

"I need to see Grandma Eleanor."

He genuinely looked like he was hiding something.

Lydia shoved past him and marched down the hall.

"Ms. Sterling, now is really not a good time..." Wesley scrambled after her.

Seeing the hospital room swarming with medical staff, Lydia froze in her tracks.

She spotted Xavier sitting on a sofa in the adjacent waiting area, his expression completely grim as he stared into the room.

Wesley was pacing frantically.
