From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 128

It happened so fast that Lydia, completely off balance, was dragged down with him.

But right as she braced for the impact, a large hand clamped around her waist, yanking her up.

Her back slammed into a hard, unyielding chest.

She could feel the steady rise and fall of the man's chest. His heavy breathing bled through her light blouse, but the terrifyingly cold aura radiating from him swallowed any sound he might have made.

She twisted around to look at him, and the arm around her waist vanished instantly.

Xavier's dark eyes churned with a deadly storm. The glare he directed at Colton was pure ice. He exuded an absolutely lethal, menacing energy, yet his chiseled face and deep-set eyes were so heart-stoppingly handsome that even in his darkest rage, he looked like a god.

Lydia's heart skipped a beat, her waist still burning from where his hand had been.

By now, Colton was scrambling to his feet, clutching his lower back, totally enraged. "How dare you..."

But the moment he actually looked at Xavier, his blue eyes widened in pure horror.

Did they know each other?

Lydia's confusion was instantly cut short by Charles.

"Who the hell do you think you are, putting your hands on my daughter-in-law?!" Charles roared with absolute authority.

Snapping out of his shock, Colton realized who Charles was and his face immediately darkened.

"Charles, what's going on?"

Frederick strode into the lobby, flanked by Caleb.

He stood tall and flawlessly handsome, looking like a masterpiece even from a distance.

Lydia stared at him for two seconds before turning away.

His good looks used to make her heart race, but now, they meant absolutely nothing.

When she looked away, she accidentally caught Xavier's dark, unfathomable gaze.

He glanced at her with total detachment, his expression bordering on disgust.

Considering how many times he'd had to save her, he probably thought she was just an absolute idiot.

Yet he had agreed to never give up on her and even promised a new contract. He must be so utterly exasperated with her.

"Frederick, you're right on time. This man was just trying to poison Lydia against you and put his hands on her. Deal with him," Charles barked, pulling Lydia back to reality.

Frederick walked over. "Charles, this is Mr. Colton Witt. He's representing The Zener Institute in our joint venture to launch Foster Research."

"Perhaps there's been a misunderstanding?"

After offering his explanation, seeing that Charles remained furious, he turned a blank gaze toward Lydia.

She already knew exactly who Frederick was. When profit was on the line, she would always be the sacrificial lamb.
