From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 25

In the car.

Joanna was fuming. “Frederick is blind and delusional! He won't have a child with you, but he wants to have one with that vicious idiot? Isn't he afraid the kid will inherit her terrible personality and nonexistent IQ?”

She lowered her voice. “But do you think nothing actually happened between Frederick and Sierra? Maybe they've only gotten close recently because of this promise?”

Lydia recalled the scene she had witnessed from Xavier's office, watching Frederick's office across the way. Her grip on the steering wheel tightened. “Maybe. But it has nothing to do with me anymore.”

“Yeah, even if they didn't actually sleep together, his coldness toward you over the past two years is enough to break anyone's heart.”

“Let's just consider everything I've done for him over the past two years as repayment for him saving my life.”

Joanna spoke softly because she knew it wasn't just about paying back a debt. Back then, Lydia had truly given him her heart.

Their pasts were so similar.

Frederick was an illegitimate child forced to live in the shadows, and she was the collateral damage of her parents' shattered marriage. Both of them came from broken, flawed families, and both of them were entirely innocent.

They clearly saw the shared pain in each other's eyes back then. How did it end up like this?

If she blamed everything on just repaying a debt, maybe it would make her feel a little better.

After all, he really had saved her life.

“Yeah!”

Her answer was crisp, but her heart felt utterly hollow.

This agonizing feeling would eventually fade, though.
