“Lydia, don't worry. My brother and Sebastian are absolute rivals. He knows all of Sebastian's dirty tricks and will definitely be able to help you,” Joanna reassured her.
Lydia remembered her mother's words. To secure custody of her, her mother had been forced to sign an agreement leaving her marriage with absolutely nothing. Her mother was a top-tier biomedical researcher holding multiple patents, all of which she had poured into Sutton Pharmaceuticals. And yet, Sierra and Cecilia were the ones reaping all the rewards.
Everything her mother sacrificed could never be reclaimed.
Since Frederick and Sierra were planning to marry and have a child, those two women would soon be enjoying everything the Foster family had to offer as well. She decided she was going to take it all back for her mother. “Alright. Thank you for your hard work, Daniel.”
Leaving the law firm, just before parting ways with Joanna, she handed over her grandmother's ruby necklace, hoping it could be repaired. Hearing the whole story behind it, Joanna naturally got furious. “Thank God you're getting away from them soon.”
Lydia headed back to the hospital to stay with her mother. Knowing she would likely receive a call from the court tomorrow, her emotions were in a turbulent churn.
Being able to finally put a period on her marriage to Frederick and look toward the future was a relief.
But going behind her mother's back to finalize the divorce filled her with a lingering anxiety.
...
Night fell as the man returned to the Grandview Villa.
Gable was in the kitchen simmering soup. Seeing him walk in, she hurried out to greet him.
“Where is she?” he asked flatly.
“Mrs. Foster is at the hospital. She called earlier and asked me to prepare some soup for her to pick up tomorrow morning,” Gable replied. “Madeline is in the hospital. As her daughter, Mrs. Foster naturally has to stay with her.”
“Mhm.”
He didn't say anything else. He went upstairs to his study, picked up his phone, and called Sebastian.
“Sebastian has already made contact with the court clerks. Someone should be reaching out to you very soon,” Daniel confirmed.
“Understood.”
Her gaze hardened with resolve. Once she arrived at the company, she threw herself into her work, spinning like a top. She wanted to finalize handing over her current projects as quickly as possible. The last thing she wanted was to be stuck at the Foster Group after the divorce, forced to see Frederick every single day.
She wanted a clean break so they would never cross paths again.
She waited from morning until evening, constantly checking her phone, terrified of missing the call from the court. But as the sun dipped below the horizon, her phone remained agonizingly silent, save for a few necessary work messages.
Alice knocked and entered her office, lowering her voice. “Ms. Sterling... Mr. Foster is here.”
Lydia looked back in confusion, and Alice stammered, “Mr. Foster brought Ms. Sutton with him. They're in the conference room. The vice-chairman has already gone in.”
