From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 3

Lydia stared at the divorce papers sliding out of the printer, hardly believing she and Frederick had actually reached this point.

For two years, she had done everything she could to be the perfect wife. In return for her devotion, she had been met with nothing but brutal betrayal. She couldn't help but feel a deep wave of sorrow for all the wasted effort.-

Still, she was grateful she was cutting her losses before it was too late.

Snapping out of her thoughts, the biting cold of her soaked clothes finally registered. She took a hot shower, and when she stepped out, she saw an incoming call from the estate. She instantly declined it.

She tossed and turned all night, waking up the next morning feeling slightly dizzy and lightheaded.

But it was nothing she couldn't handle.

On her way out, she passed the guest bedroom and noticed the bed was perfectly made. No one had slept in it.

Her gaze darkened.

He hadn't come home last night.

She drove straight to the Horizon Research Institute.

Inside the Director's office.

Behind the desk sat a mature, commanding man with handsome features. Behind his rimless glasses, sharp, intelligent dark eyes were glued to his computer screen. His expensive pen scratched rhythmically against paper, leaving behind sharp, immaculate handwriting.

She knocked gently, stepping inside as he looked up with a warm, welcoming gaze.

"Harrison, it's been a while."

She felt an immense amount of gratitude toward Harrison.

When she had left the scientific world to integrate into the Foster family, it had caused quite a stir.

Her mother had strongly disapproved, and their mentor had been absolutely devastated.

Harrison was the only one who had silently supported her, always keeping her in mind whenever the right opportunities arose.

Without his invitation, she might have found another way back into the industry, but it certainly wouldn't have been this seamless.

"It has been far too long, Lydia."

Harrison stood up and gestured for her to sit on the leather sofa. "Did you bring your passport?"

"Yes."

She pulled her passport from her bag and handed it over.

Harrison took it, giving it a quick scan. "It's valid. The paperwork should be a breeze."

"However, since you'll be gone for so long, what about your husband...?"

Seeing him hesitate, she decided there was no point in hiding it. Her tone was completely even. "We're having issues. I'm filing for a divorce."

Harrison fell silent, studying her carefully at the news.

In just two short years, marriage had drained the bright, confident woman he knew, leaving her looking hollow and exhausted. It was glaringly obvious how much she had suffered.
