From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 38

"Let me take you to the hospital first," Daniel said, worried about her injured ankle. "Then I'll go check."

Such a massive accident with so many reporters on the scene would undoubtedly cause a massive uproar. Once the news broke, her mother might see it. The thought of her mother's fragile health made her pale. "It's fine, I can manage on my own."

Parting ways with Daniel, she endured the agonizing pain in her ankle and rushed to the hospital.

Outside the room, her mother was sitting on the sofa, watching the news broadcast about the incident.

Julian was beside her, holding her hand anxiously.

"Mom."

She walked over and crouched in front of her.

"Lydia, you're okay, right?"

Her mother's trembling hands cupped her face, inspecting her carefully.

"I'm fine."

Leaning into her mother's embrace and listening to her racing heartbeat, she tried to sound as calm as possible. "The police just took me in to assist with the investigation."

"There's no way Lydia would embezzle money. Someone is clearly framing her. I'm calling Harrison. We have to hire the best lawyer for her," Julian said, his voice laced with both anger and heartache.

"You don't need to bother Harrison, Julian. I've already hired a lawyer," she said softly. Suddenly, her mother grabbed her shoulders.

Using her momentum, her mother stood up. "It has to be Cecilia. I'm going to make her pay."

"Mom!"

She reached out and stopped her mother. "Mom, the police will investigate thoroughly. If I didn't do it, they'll clear my name. You're still recovering, please don't..."

"Then take me to the police station! I need to give them a lead. Tell them to investigate Cecilia. It has to be her. Only she is vicious enough to want you dead." Her mother's breathing grew ragged as she clutched her chest tightly. "If Frederick hadn't pushed you out of the way, those steel pipes would have crushed your skull..."
