From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 40

By the time she arrived at the courthouse, it was already 3:00 PM.

Her ankle was incredibly swollen, making it difficult to walk. When she reached the mediation office, she only saw the refined and scholarly Daniel.

"Daniel? Where's Sebastian?"

A faint sense of unease crept into her heart.

"Lydia, Sebastian didn't submit the application."

Daniel looked troubled. As Lydia's lawyer, he was the first to receive the investigation results regarding the scaffolding collapse. Her husband had stood by and let others accuse her, showing not a shred of concern while actively protecting the very people who had framed her.

The more her heart was broken, the more desperately she wanted this divorce, which made the current disappointment all the more crushing.

Lydia recalled how intimate Frederick had been with her that morning.

It turned out he never had any intention of going through with the court mediation, even though he had clearly promised Sierra he would.

Two days of hope instantly vanished into thin air. It felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured straight into her heart, sending a chill down her spine.

"But don't worry, I will make sure you get this divorce. However, we'll have to stick strictly to the terms in the divorce agreement you both signed. We won't be able to fight for anything else."

Hearing the guilt in Daniel's voice, her freezing heart slowly began to thaw. "Daniel, as long as I can divorce him, nothing else matters."

Daniel's tone grew resolute. "Don't worry, I won't let you down."

"I asked you to come here so you could meet the contacts I have."

"Okay."

Under the setting sun, she pushed through the agonizing pain in her ankle and offered a gentle, beautiful smile as she followed Daniel to meet the relevant officials.

In five days, she would have her divorce certificate.

In twenty-three days, she would fly far, far away.

Thinking about this, the bitterness in her heart slowly smoothed over.

When they finished, she parted ways with Daniel, intending to head to the hospital to get her ankle treated, but she suddenly received a call from Charles.

The news was flooded with reports about the massive accident involving The Foster Foundation, causing severe negative PR for The Foster Group. Even though the construction manager, Zachary Kemp, had colluded with the Suttons to embezzle funds, she was still the chairwoman and project lead. She couldn't easily absolve herself of responsibility.
