From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 60

Listening to the venomous whispers and pointed fingers from the crowd, the man's cold breath washed over her face. His dark eyes boiled with a terrifying undercurrent of rage. "Are you finished making a scene?"

"Preserve what little dignity you have left."

"Do not forget who you are."

Dignity?

The moment he had begun parading Sierra around town like a prized possession, he had already ripped her dignity to shreds.

As for who she was... The esteemed wife of the most powerful billionaire in Averton?

She didn't want that title anymore.

A bitter smile touched the corners of her lips. She scoffed lightly. "If you aren't satisfied, find yourself a replacement."

Her gaze flicked toward the operating table. "Isn't there someone right here, dying for the promotion?"

Hearing those words, a flash of undeniable glee danced in Sierra's eyes. But taking in the volatile tension between the two, she quickly put on a serene face. "Lydia, Frederick and I are completely innocent."

"He simply dotes on me like a sister."

"How can you be jealous of your own flesh and blood?"

Finally, someone in the crowd recognized them.

"Shh, keep your voice down. That's Mr. Foster and his wife."

"So all the tabloid rumors are actually true?"

The onlookers slowly began to scatter, too terrified to meddle in the affairs of the city's most ruthless tycoon.

"A sister?"

Lydia pressed her lips into a thin line, staring directly into Frederick's eyes, trying to see the soul beneath. But all she found was an apathetic void masking a sick sense of amusement. "You buy her an emerald necklace, and hand me the matching bracelet. You prop her up to take over the foundation, plotting to oust me so she can seize my power. She shatters my grandmother's heirloom and slashes my face open, and you brush it all under the rug as a mere accident."

"Mr. Foster, do me a favor. Stop treating me like your wife, and treat me like your sister instead." Her voice was entirely devoid of warmth.

For some inexplicable reason, those words struck the man completely silent. His gaze darkened dangerously, as if a catastrophic storm was brewing in the depths of his pupils.

But she was no longer afraid. She ripped her wrist free from his grip. "Get out. Stop interfering with my medical treatment."

"Mr. Foster, since this is indeed Mrs. Foster's booked slot, we should treat her first," Dr. Price finally chimed in, reading the explosive tension in the room. "Besides, Ms. Sutton is complaining of pain. Perhaps the anesthesia hasn't taken full effect, and she requires another injection first."

"Frederick! My face doesn't hurt anymore! If the doctor doesn't stitch this up right now, I'm going to be scarred for life..." Sierra panicked, grabbing his arm again.

Watching Sierra play the pitiful, helpless victim was a routine Frederick never tired of, but Lydia was sick to her stomach of it.

A sudden wave of profound exhaustion washed over her.

What was the point of winning a petty fight over a doctor? It was just delaying her own treatment.

She turned to leave, but his massive hand clamped down on hers once again, directly over the bandaged cuts on her fingers. She winced in sharp pain.
