From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 72

Joanna's car slowly pulled up.

Lydia withdrew her hand, snatched her phone back, and got into the car to leave.

Watching her slender silhouette, the memory of her shattered pain from last night and her current look of desolate disappointment rushed into his heart like seawater flooding a drowning man's lungs.

A wave of suffocating discomfort surged in Frederick's chest.

He pressed a hand over his heart, his gaze unfocused.

"Frederick, I didn't do it. It's just that Lydia and her mother are always falsely accusing me and my mom. I only said that to make her mad," Sierra's nervous voice pulled him back to reality.

Seeing him give a faint nod, showing no signs of displeasure, Sierra finally breathed a sigh of relief.

She thought about what had happened last night at Tidal Crest Manor.

It turned out Lydia had run away from home a few days ago. When Frederick found out, he demanded she come back, and they got into a massive fight.

Lydia had even hit Frederick, yet he didn't seem to blame her at all.

If it were anyone else, there would have been hell to pay.

But he just brushed it off with a casual 'she was being careless.'

And just now, they had been pressed so closely together.

Why did she get the feeling that Frederick didn't hate Lydia as much as it seemed?

The thought popped up, but she immediately shot it down.

No way.

Frederick only wanted to maintain the marriage for the sake of the stock prices and Charles's inheritance.

Once The Sutton Group merged with the Foster family's corporation and went public, they would get divorced. He would definitely marry her, even if it was just to secure an IVF baby. As long as she refused to get a divorce, he and Lydia could never remarry. Once her baby was born as the only grandchild of the Foster family, Charles would surely take her side, and Lydia would lose every ounce of hope.

In twenty days, she would be Mrs. Foster.

Ever since she learned that the two had a falling out and Lydia moved out, her hands would tremble with excitement every time she crossed off a day on the calendar.

...

The cool night breeze drifted through the window, brushing against Lydia's soft features. The minor scrapes on her cheek and the corner of her mouth added a touch of fragile beauty to her naturally stunning face.

"Lydia, are you okay?" Joanna asked with concern.

She shook her head, suppressing the ache in her chest. Tapping into her phone's cloud drive, she saw the auto-saved audio file and slowly exhaled a heavy breath. Frederick had only deleted the local copy.

Frederick's blatant favoritism toward Sierra made her wary of acting recklessly.

Tomorrow, she would consult Daniel to see if this recording was enough to convict Sierra before making her next move.

"Joanna, thanks for everything tonight," she said, looking at her friend while masking her emotions.

"If you keep being so polite, I'm going to get mad," Joanna replied.

"I just know how busy you are. Your jewelry exhibition is starting soon, right? Are your own designs going to be featured?"

Joanna couldn't help but smile. "Yes, they will. You have to come show some support, I'll set you up with a whole collection."

"I call dibs on being your first customer."

"I'm going to treasure a masterpiece by the great Joanna Quinn for the rest of my life."

"You're giving me too much credit." Joanna's tone sobered up. "Lydia, I noticed you didn't mention the presidential suite when you gave your statement."

"Yeah, it wasn't convenient to bring up."

"What does that mean?"

Remembering Xavier's cold face, her gaze involuntarily softened. "The person who saved me didn't want to be dragged into a scandal."

"You were completely out of it. How exactly did he save you?" Joanna shot her a look.

Knowing her friend was just worried, Lydia explained, "Don't stress. When I was being chased, I bumped into him, and he just helped me call the cops and the paramedics."

"When I was looking for you, I ran into someone. The CEO of the Ford Corporation. Was it him?"

"Yeah, that was him."
