From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 81

Raising her gaze, she saw the Gynecology clinic ahead.

"I'm not feeling well and need a checkup. Wait for me out here," Lydia Sterling said.

Griffin glanced at the sign and gave a curt nod.

The clinic was on the ground floor, which meant she could easily slip out through the bathroom window.

Lydia quickened her pace, but a familiar voice suddenly caught her attention. Peering through the slightly ajar door, she caught sight of the profiles of Sierra Sutton and Diana Thornton.

"Ms. Sutton, I just reported to Mr. Foster a few days ago that you were fully recovered. Now you want me to tell him your uterus is deteriorating and you need IVF immediately? He'll question my competence and replace me," Diana said, her tone laced with panic. "If a new doctor takes over your treatment and finds out your uterus was never damaged in the first place..."

"Didn't he promise to register our marriage and start IVF in nineteen days?"

"A few days won't make a difference."

Sierra said nothing, merely pacing back and forth.

It was all fake!

Lydia pulled her gaze away, slipped into the bathroom, climbed out the window, and hurried away from the hospital.

A black van suddenly swerved, blocking her path.

Griffin stepped out of the driver's seat, rounded the hood, and opened the rear door for her. "Ma'am, it's eleven o'clock. It's time to head to the City Registry Office."

Taking a deep breath to suppress her turbulent emotions, she climbed in.

The vehicle shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.

"Why aren't we going to the registry?"

"Mr. Foster asked us to pick him up at the company first."

She turned her face toward the window, her anxiety and fury reaching their absolute peak.

They arrived at The Foster Group.

Minutes ticked by, but Frederick Foster was nowhere to be seen.

Her gaze fell on the keys in the ignition. "Go upstairs and hurry him along. We're going to miss the appointment."

"Ma'am, Mr. Foster ordered me not to leave your side."

Harrison Zane sent a text asking where she was, noting that it was almost time.

Left with no choice, she stepped out of the car and headed inside.

Griffin followed, keeping a measured distance.

As she reached the executive suite and raised her hand to knock, Sebastian Vane's voice drifted through the door. "I scared the truth out of Diana Thornton. There's nothing wrong with Sierra's uterus. She's been lying to you."

"Give me the keys." Standing before the van, she held her hand out to him. When Griffin didn't move, she shot him a frigid glare. "Did Mr. Foster forbid me from driving?"

"No, he just told me to ensure your safety." Griffin pulled the keys from his pocket and handed them over.

She snatched them and climbed into the driver's seat.

Griffin instantly yanked the passenger door open.

Her eyes were chips of ice. "Is that your seat?"

Griffin quickly shut the door, moving to take the back seat instead.

In that split second, she floored the accelerator.

The van tore into the bustling traffic like a missile.

In the rearview mirror, she saw the tall, imposing figure of the man striding out of the building. Upon hearing Griffin's report, his chilling gaze locked onto her retreating vehicle.

She gave his reflection one last, hard look before pressing her foot heavier on the gas.

Never again, Frederick Foster.

Twenty minutes later, she pulled up to The Orion Center, took the elevator up to the twenty-third floor, and pushed open the door to Daniel Quinn's office.
