Franklin stepped in quickly, grabbing his arm. “Enough. This is a hospital, not your living room. Act like it.”
“Director Bishop, she insulted me-”
Franklin shot him a warning look. Silence.
Then he turned to Seraphina, rubbing his hands together as he forced a polite smile. “Miss, I personally trust your skills. However, you are not licensed at our hospital. I cannot take responsibility for allowing you to lead the case. I hope you understand.”
Seraphina glanced at the chart, then asked calmly, “So, what’s your plan to treat her?”
“Conservative management.”
“And the specifics?” she asked.
Franklin cleared his throat. The expert panel deferred to cardiothoracic surgery.
Charles spoke with confidence. “Put her on cardiopulmonary bypass first.”
Seraphina laughed, short and incredulous. “So the head of cardiothoracic surgery only knows how to hook up bypass?”
“You-” Charles trembled with anger.
She ignored him completely, pulled out her phone, opened WhatsApp, and tapped Zachary’s profile.
Seraphina typed, “Look into Charles Merrick’s employment history at Ethos Medical Center. Send it to me.”
She dropped the phone on the table and looked up. Her gaze cut like a blade. “What about the pneumonia?”
The room stiffened.
Frederick Adams, the chronic lung specialist, stepped forward reluctantly. “We’ll… manage it as best we
can.”
“Manage?” Seraphina repeated, unimpressed. “What does that mean? How far does ‘manage’ go?”
Frederick bristled, anger flashing in his eyes.
He was the most credentialed pulmonary specialist in the hospital. Awards, papers, prestige. He was used to respect.
Being questioned by a young woman was humiliating.
“The child’s lungs are completely opaque,” he snapped. “They’re beyond repair. Who dares promise to

rebuild ruins into something functional? This is ridiculous.”
“You know just enough medicine to cause trouble,” he added coldly.

“I agree with Dr. Adams,” someone else chimed in. “This patient has severe pneumonia and a heart condition. Internal medicine and surgery combined, there are more than ten major complications.”
Charles seized the moment, tapping the table for emphasis. “And she’s premature. Multiple hospitals already refused her. Who here dares guarantee survival? Who?”
The questions landed one after another.
Silence followed. Quiet discussions began to spread through the room.
“She’s reckless. If the patient dies, the hospital takes the blame.”
“Exactly. Both department heads support conservative treatment. What is she still arguing for?”
“What a nuisance. Pretty face, but unbearable.”
Charles basked in the rising support.
