Chapter 12
I stopped Maria from calling Steve. “Don’t tell him. There’s no point.”
Even if she did tell him, he would only think I was making a fuss or that I was laying it on thick just to compete with Isabel for attention.
And even if he believed Maria by some miracle, I no longer needed his regret or his pity.
Under my insistence, Maria finally put her phone away.
Half an hour later, Juliet reached the hospital.
The moment she saw how pale I was, she flew into a rage. “I told you not to be a vegetarian like him! Look at you! You’re such a gorgeous woman, but there’s not a trace of color in your
face!”
After scolding me, she felt so sorry for me that her eyes reddened with distress.
Gritting her teeth, she said, “Steve is such a bastard! The daughter of that mistress can forget about getting into Sanctus Kindergarten. That’ll show him!”
I didn’t want to drag Juliet into my mess.
I reminded her hastily, “Griffin Group is a major shareholder of Sanctus Kindergarten. Don’t offend him because of me. Even if Dorothy doesn’t get into the kindergarten your family owns, he’ll just find another one.”
Juliet shot a wary glance at Maria, clearly worried she might repeat this to Steve later.
But before she could say anything, Maria received a call from the villa. It turned out Steve had just won a box of top-grade Gold Osetra caviar at an auction and had it delivered home. Now, Isabel wanted Maria to go back and prepare a dish with the caviar for her.
There were so many maids in the villa, yet it had to be Maria. Obviously, Isabel asked Maria to go back because she was with me. She wanted me to be isolated and helpless. Taking my husband wasn’t enough. She wanted to snatch away everyone who showed me kindness.
I said to Maria, “You should go back first. Juliet is here with me. I’ll be fine.”
Maria was, after all, an employee. She could only look at me worriedly and say, “You must call me if you need anything, Mrs. Griffin.”
I nodded.

Chapter 12
Once she left, Juliet finally got to the point. “Zara, you were never one to take a beating
without fighting back in the past! From what Maria said, I gathered that the mistress is living in your house now. Is that really the case? How are you tolerating this?”
I responded calmly, “I’m not tolerating it. I’ll definitely divorce him.”
Juliet stared at me in shock upon hearing that.
She had known me since elementary school. So, she had witnessed firsthand how my feelings for Steve developed every step of the way.
Back when Steve decided to devote himself to being a pious man, and I chose to support him, Juliet had said I was finished when I decided to live by his strict rules of abstinence. She had even joked that if Steve brought another woman home one day, I would probably help her along if she carried his child, given how much I loved him.
She never imagined her words would come true. What was more, Steve’s mistress had already borne him a three-year-old daughter. In the end, my help wasn’t needed at all.
I thought it was incredibly ironic.
But this time, I was clear-headed as I said to Juliet, “I won’t compromise again. The only issue is that I can’t quite divorce him yet. My mom needs that cardiopulmonary support device developed by Griffin Group. It won’t officially be on the market for another month.”
With that, Juliet finally understood why I was still putting up with Steve’s outrageous acts.
Upon hearing me mention divorce, she said, “Right. I helped you contact a lawyer previously, remember? She often works for Simpson Group. I’ll call her over and ask what else is needed for the procedure.”
“Okay.” I nodded.
While waiting for the lawyer, Juliet casually scrolled through Instagram.
Isabel had posted a photo of the premium Gold Osetra caviar with the caption, “A hardworking actress needs to love herself and get a glow up from time to time. I’ll have a taste of this first, everyone.”
I had beaten her face to a swollen mess yesterday. So, she used an old photo for the post.
The comment section was full of praise for her.
“You’re naturally beautiful already, Izzy. With the caviar nourishing you, you’ll turn into a fairy! How are we ordinary folks supposed to compare?”

“I know that brand! You can only get it at auctions. It’s super expensive and more costly than gold. I heard it’s amazing for nutrition, and it’s especially good for women!”
