From Wife to Aunt: His Worst Nightmare novel Chapter 15

Chapter 15

Steve looked at me with displeasure. “Dorothy is still so young. What does she even understand? Are you really going to take a child’s words to heart?”

Not only did he fail to correct Dorothy’s rotten behavior, but he even pulled her back onto his lap and personally fed her.

Isabel smiled and said gently, “Dorothy’s been watching too many period dramas lately. Don’t take it to heart. Oh, right. The Gold Osetra caviar Steve bought at the auction the other day was exceptionally good, so I saved some for you. I’ll have Maria bring it to you later.”

I flashed an equally polite smile back at her and said, “No thanks. I’m not used to secondhand things, unlike you. You’re not picky.”

With that, I picked up my things and went back to my room.

If I wanted to eat well, I’d better cook my own meals.

Before long, I made myself a plate of spaghetti Bolognese. I added an egg and some ham, and it tasted pretty good.

After I finished eating, my thoughts drifted back to what Hillary had told me the other day. How was I supposed to investigate Steve’s assets? And how could I prove that Dorothy was indeed Steve and Isabel’s biological child?

The second task was actually easier than the first. Since I was still living in this villa, there would always be a chance to get hair samples from them for a DNA test.

But how was I supposed to uncover what assets Steve had?

I searched online for countless divorce cases, yet none of them really applied to someone like Steve. I understood then that divorcing him was not something that could be done in a day or

two. I couldn’t rush it.

So, I took a shower and went to bed. I would continue to think about it again tomorrow.

Suddenly, a dog’s barking drifted in from the villa’s courtyard. I had always been a light sleeper. Even back when Steve got up at night to use the bathroom, his footsteps would wake

The barking came one after another, and they made my head ache. At first, I thought it was a stray dog nearby. But when I went to the window and pulled back the curtain, I saw the source

of the noise.

In the courtyard, Steve and Isabel were walking a dog with Dorothy. It was a large white Labrador that was almost as big as Dorothy herself.

I hadn’t expected them to keep a dog in this villa. When I was little, I had been bitten by a dog. Ever since then, I had always gone out of my way to avoid them.

This was something Steve knew. In the past, whenever we encountered a dog or even heard barking while we were out together, he would cover my ears and pull me into his arms.

But Steve no longer cared about my feelings now. The only thing he cared about was whether Isabel and Dorothy were happy.

I quietly pulled the curtains shut and put my earphones in, trying to block out the noise.

They didn’t walk the dog for long, and the barking soon stopped. But for some reason, I still couldn’t fall asleep. I tossed and turned until dawn.
