From Wife to Aunt: His Worst Nightmare novel Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Mom let out a sigh. “Brandon said paparazzi have been following Isabel nonstop lately. Bringing her home to meet the family at a time like this would be unsafe, so it’s postponed to next week.”

“I see…” I felt a little disappointed that I had to wait another week.

But that was fine. Some things were worth the wait. Sooner or later, both Brandon and Steve would see this woman for who she really was.

Before ending the call, I added, “If the date gets confirmed, you must let me know, okay?”

Mom chuckled. “You’ve loved being in the middle of things since you were little. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely tell you.”

When I got home, Isabel was scolding the two maids who were assigned to stay by Dorothy’s

side.

Apparently, Dorothy had wet her pants again today, three times in a day, no less. Not only had they gone through all three clean pairs of pants, but the other kids had also laughed at her.

The maids explained helplessly, “Mr. Griffin, Ms. Stone, we really were paying close attention. But Ms. Dorothy doesn’t like wearing diapers. She says they make her bottom itch.”

Watching the scene, I was suddenly reminded of myself as a child. When I was in kindergarten, I’d wet my pants all the time, too. I’d been allergic to diapers back then, so I could only keep changing into clean pants.

It wasn’t until the following year that my condition improved.

Isabel snapped sharply at the maids, “How dare you still make excuses? It’s because you weren’t careful that Dorothy kept wetting herself over and over! If she develops psychological problems because of this, can you even afford to take responsibility for that?”

Steve rolled the rosary beads in his hand and said coldly, “Go settle your pay with Maria. You

don’t need to come back tomorrow.”

I couldn’t help sighing inwardly. I’d never seen Steve, who was usually calm and self- controlled, act so foolishly before.

Dorothy was being raised more delicately than a princess.

I didn’t want to get involved with these unlucky people at all, but I had to pass through the

living room to return to my room.

I’d only taken a few steps when Isabel called out, “Ms. Yaxley, I have something I’d like to ask

you.”

She walked up to me and said, “I want to plead on behalf of my fans. I know they went too far yesterday, but one should show mercy where possible. Please forgive them. Let’s just drop the

lawsuit.”

I let out a cold chuckle and said, “I was the one who got injured. What right do you have to forgive on my behalf? How about you let them rip out chunks of your hair and scratch up your face first? Then we’ll see if you can forgive them.”

As I said this, I looked toward Steve. “Besides, it wasn’t me who hired a lawyer yesterday. It was Mr. Griffin who took the initiative to help me sue them. Am I remembering that wrong?”

Isabel lightly curled her lips. “I’ll talk to Steve. He knows my identity is sensitive. I can’t afford

to offend my fans.”

“So I suffered in your place, and now you, Isabel, get to play the saint?” I sneered.

If I weren’t worried about alerting her before the meeting, I would’ve demanded to know right then and there what her relationship with Brandon really was.

At that moment, Steve said flatly, “Isabel is an idol. If we sue her fans this time, who would dare be her fans in the future? Let this matter end here.”

With a few casual words, he reduced all the harm and humiliation I’d suffered the day before to something as insignificant as a grain of sand being washed away with the waves.

But no matter what punishment those fans received, the true culprit was still sitting here perfectly fine.

What difference did it really make whether I sued them or not?

My gaze swept over his indifferent face. Without another word, I headed back to my room.
