From Wife to Aunt: His Worst Nightmare novel Chapter 54

Henry lowered his voice. "His daughter? With whom? Isabel?"

Just then, the door swung open, and Steve walked in, his expression dark.

My conversation with Henry stopped immediately.

Henry put his hands in his pockets, acting like a spoiled rich kid, and said, "Long time no see, my dear brother."

Steve's gaze was sharp and cold as he asked gloomily, "Why aren't you staying abroad? What are you doing back here?"

Their rivalry had lasted since childhood.

Steve always had the upper hand. After all, Henry was an illegitimate son with poorer grades. Kenny, along with Steve's aunt and uncle, all looked down on Henry and never accepted him as one of the family.

Plus, Simone used to cause scenes at school, shouting that Henry was an illegitimate Griffin and calling Catherine a shameless homewrecker, all to save her marriage.

So Henry grew up constantly burdened by rumors and whispers about being an illegitimate child.

Anyone could see the resentment boiling inside him.

Nevertheless, he didn't back down from Steve and grinned cheekily. "What, do you own the entirety of Edrana now? I haven't been exiled from the country, so why can't I come back? Grandpa's dead, and my mom and I haven't even had a chance to pay our respects yet. We came back to see him."

"You and your mother have no right to honor Grandpa," Steve said coldly. "Know your place. Even if you're back, you'd better keep your head down and stay out of sight. Don't make me deal with you."

Upon hearing Steve's condescending threat, I felt a pang of sadness.

Back then, when he stood up for me against Henry, I had found it incredibly satisfying.

But after experiencing Steve's threats and cold neglect myself, I started to understand Henry's feelings.

I didn't want Henry to get in trouble with Steve for me, so I said, "Henry, you should go. Thanks for bringing me back."

Henry stared at me for a long moment, his gaze unreadable. Then, he chuckled softly and said, "Alright, I'm off. Let's talk about our little secret another time."

Before leaving, he even winked at me.

I was speechless. What on earth was he playing at? Since when did he and I have any secrets?

But Steve had clearly heard him.

After Henry left, Steve came over and pinched my chin. "What secret did you tell him?"

"What's it to you?"
