Cheiron said nothing for a long moment. His fingers tapped against the table in an absent rhythm-a habit that surfaced whenever he was working through something complex,

“One thing worth noting.” He looked up, and his voice shifted into that clinical, academic tone. “According to Phoebe’s account, she’s a natural S-class. Ardon forced her onto the drugs, and now she’s suffering the side effects. The mechanism behind these substances is straightforward-they spike spiritual power beyond its natural ceiling. If her story held, her spiritual power should fluctuate between S-class and SS- class, Not between A-class and S-class, which is what you sensed. She’s lying. Her real rank doesn’t even reach S-class.”

“I don’t care what rank she is.” Timothy’s brow furrowed. “She’s stirring up a mess. Is any of this going to blow back on Margaret?”

That was all he cared about-someone scheming against Margaret was something he couldn’t stomach.

“It won’t.” Margaret popped the last bite of dessert into her mouth. “Ardon went to the black market on Phoebe’s orders. He only brought back ten pills. Now those two are tearing each other apart.”

She turned to Cheiron. “Is the Purification Department physical still happening? If she’s bold enough to call in the authorities, she’s got a plan for the deep scan. She’s probably going to swallow all ten pills at once and power through the scan.”

Cheiron didn’t answer the question directly.

His focus had veered somewhere Margaret hadn’t expected.

He’d caught something in her words. “You said Ardon bought drugs on the black market and brought back ten pills. How do you know the exact number?”

Margaret shrugged. “Oh, we ran into him at the Valoran Galaxy black market. I spotted him buying the pills. Timothy was there too.”

The air went still.

Cheiron turned his head, slowly, and fixed his gaze on Timothy. It wasn’t a sharp look, but it carried a weight that made the skin prickle,

“You took her to the black market.” His voice was completely flat.

All of Timothy’s earlier swagger vanished instantly.

He was guilty, and he knew it. Sure, he was confident he could protect Margaret, but the Valoran Galaxy black market was lawless territory. It drew every kind of scum the galaxy had to offer. Taking her there- he didn’t have a leg to stand on.

“I-” Timothy’s mouth opened, but nothing coherent came out. He shot Margaret a desperate, pleading

look.

“I asked to go.” Margaret watched Timothy squirm for a beat before throwing him a lifeline. She was, after all, eating his food and sleeping under his roof.

Cheiron exhaled. “Ms. Greene.” His voice sharpened. “The Hurst Group’s resources can solve a great many problems. Timothy’s SSS-class combat ability is nothing to dismiss, either. But in the black market, neither of those is a guaranteed pass.”

He leaned forward and folded his hands on the table..

“Especially when it comes to the man behind Senro Pavilion-“Cheiron stopped. He seemed to weigh his next words carefully. Or maybe he was holding something back.

In the end, he didn’t finish the thought. He only left a warning.

“Don’t ever go back to a place like that.”

Margaret nodded along, the picture of compliance. Inside, she’d already etched the phrase “the man behind Senro Pavilion” deep into her memory.

She didn’t know why, but the moment she heard them, she thought of the dark figure who’d slipped through her window that night

The next few days passed quietly. Margaret settled into her Valoran Galaxy vacation without complaint. The Hurst Group’s private beach was stunning, and her routine had simplified to two things: eating and sleeping. Life was good.

But the showdown she’d been waiting for-Ardon and Phoebe going for each other’s throats-never materialized. Ardon’s side stayed dead silent.

Margaret chewed on her straw, staring at her Holo-bracelet screen.

Phoebe had fired off that blame-shifting statement days ago. Ardon was an S-class male with a notoriously short fuse. With a charge this heavy hanging over his head, he should’ve been out there swinging by now.

And even if Ardon was stupid, a summons from the Interstellar Security Bureau wasn’t something one simply ignored. He should’ve at least put up a defense.

But there was nothing. Not a ripple. That meant one of two things-someone had gotten to him, or he was already dead.

Margaret leaned toward the first. Phoebe’s drug side effects couldn’t stay hidden forever, and the Purification Department physical was still bearing down on her. As long as Ardon was breathing, the bomb was going to go off soon enough.

Then the opposite happened.

Her Holo-bracelet chimed while she was still lost in thought I was a special alert from the Starnet forum.
