Chapter 117 Make a Name for Herself

Baar and Gary had kept their entire ruse under tight wraps, even from the medical chief.

And then those panicked medics had gone behind his back and called Margaret in.

Just thinking about it made Baar’s blood boil.

What if she’d been hit by an insectoid attack on the way? What if the frenzied energy had torn into her?

“Idiots.” He ground his teeth. “Once this is over, I’m shipping that medical major general who made the call straight to a mining outpost.”

Margaret pictured the major general-cold sweat streaming, legs shaking, still desperately trying to guide her onward.

“Let it go.” She waved a hand. “He thought you were dying. He was trying to save your life. Drop it.”

Baar had been ready to keep going, but at her words, the fight went out of him.

“Fine. The answer came without hesitation. “Whatever you say.”

Gary nearly choked.

He stared at Baar, then at Margaret.

Was this the same Commander Iverson? The one who ruled the military with an iron fist, who had flipped entire conference tables in a rage?

The isolation room fell quiet. The black serpent coiled at Margaret’s feet was nuzzling her ankle like a devoted pet.

Baar’s gaze dropped. He watched his own spirit beast groveling at her feet without an ounce of dignity, and his throat tightened.

“Thank you. For today.” He paused. When he looked up again, his cold, commanding aura had slid back into place. “But you can’t stay. When you leave this room, you’ll pretend your spiritual power is completely drained. Tell them the frenzy is beyond reversal, that there was nothing you could do. Gary will arrange a ship. You’re going back to Prime Planet. Immediately.”
